Dean Club!!!

I had a look at some people doing demos on Youtube, they sound really good with the two octaves, I really like the Acoustic dean, its my "travelling" one when off on business.
Which acoustic Dean model? The one with Aphex? Could you post a picture of it?

Hoping someone in here could help me with a question.
What was the first year of production for the Rhapsody 8 string bass?
I bought one within a year of when I first saw them in Musician's Friend, but I can't for the life of me remember exactly when that was.
Thanks.

I'm thinking 2003?

Not entirely sure. I have an actual physical 2001 catalog at home that I can check when I actually get home.
I also have a 2003 catalog here in PDF form that I can check. I am working on having catalogs from 1998 to present. And maybe find a few when they were owned by 'Tropical Music before Elliot 'Dean' Rubinson bought them.
Give me a minute or two please.

Check this out too.

Many different Rhapsody's

These pages are from the Dean 2003 catalog.
I'll have to check my actual physical 2001 catalog when I get home.
So, the temporary half fast answer is at least as early as 2003.

Of course. Any info would be greatly appreciated. I know it was around then, but can't narrow it down myself more than being pretty sure it was between 2000 and 2003.

I saw that catalog post earlier today when I was searching and it reminded me of a past disappointment. Back when I got the Rhapsody 8 I liked the ergonomics of it so much I really wanted a passive, fretted 4 string with F holes, but all I could find online or in stores was the fretless 4 version. I didn't know any of those others existed. Only the 8, 12 and fretless 4.

@Wicked G can tell you all about his 4 string versions. Here is his post of his Rhapsody's and Vendetta's Dean Club!!!

Actually, I believe a TB-er is selling a passive fretted Rhapsody with F holes in black but only the one pup version

there are actually 2 different style of fretted HB Rhapsody basses. One with the modern or cats eye F holes with the pup more mid body and the HB with classic F holes with the pup near the bridge

This I think also came in black as well as fretless.
Notice the pup is lower than the other bass with cats eye F holes

The active basses had EMG HZ pups but Dean Pre-amps

Take a good look at this one. Has beveling very different than the others. Top inside of the horns and the lower waste part of the body where your leg would be if playing in sitting position.

So how did you get by? Hope everything is good.
thanx, but on Oahu the only thing we suffered was our public bus system being shut down for nothing and stranding thousands of workers etc. ...dumb. severe flooding on some islands, and now we got another one possibly gonna do even worse bearing down on us like the East coast is about to see. I haven't forgotten the scale measurement, my Dean is right here reminding me that I want to know as well. I'm just laughably tape challenged at the moment lol

I'm not really looking anymore. Not for that model at least.

If I get another Dean, to add to the four I currently have, it'll be one of the neon green Custom Zones. I love the outright obnoxiousness of that color and the painted fretboard. Just waiting for the right gig to justify it to myself. Preferably one with a deeply traditional guitar player who'll be really annoyed by the looks, but unable to fault the tone.

That tells you more about my personality than you probably wanted to know.

Yeah I think it was around 2003ish also. That's about the time I got mine and they did not produce them (Rhapsody Q4) for very long. IDK why, they are ridiculously nice basses. Wouldn't trade mine for any other bass period.

I've gotten to play one before. Seems to be a great value for the price, and sounds exactly like what it is. A P bass in a fancy outfit.

I had the perfect gig for one a while back, house band for a blues jam. If it had gotten renewed for a second 6 month contract I was going to get one to be the loaner bass for people to sit in on. Now I'll probably have to start some kind of hair metal/psychadelia group to justify it to myself.

Also every time I think I'm going to order, I start thinking about getting the pink one instead. Clearly I watched too much MTV in the 80's as a teen.

I remember seeing a lot of Warlocks on MTV in the 80's.

Of course I can't say enough about the great tone of the ZONE! I always laugh at its shock value, because one would easily be deceived into thinking that it was just for looks, but sonically, it's amazing.

Dean really did their homework on it... or the pup is just that good, or it's the painted fretboard...

All I know is that I own seven American made basses of distinction, and the Zone is on par with them all when it comes to tone. And between us, it's actually a little less flashy than my other basses... lol

Didn’t we all!?!?!?

Thought I'd pop in and share this video from a couple of years ago with the Dean EABC in action. Our version of House of the Rising Sun. First song I learned on guitar at 13. Still playing it over a half century later. I wonder how many of us old guys it was their first song too.

Hey, that was cool. Sat here and watched 5 or 6 of your videos what a great groove and vibe to them. Thanks for posting.
