Dean Club!!!

So here in all it's dirty uncleaned glory is my 2006 Dean Razorback, I picked this monster up in June with the original hardshell case for $150 dollars. There are a few chips on the tips which is to be expected with a bass like this, but OH BOY does it rip!! The lows are booming and the mids are a punch in the face. I'm a huge Dimebag Darrell fan, but I'm not even close to an adequate guitarist so I've always lusted for this bass. Just wanted to chime in and share lol. :bassist:
I've thought about trying to buy one of those at one point because they look so cool, but when push comes to shove that body's just not really my style. Looks awesome, though .

2018 EAB5 with Black Tusq XL nut and saddle, VERY light D’Addario Pro Steels (.09, .07, .055, .04, .03) and Kayser 12 string capo. Tuned to E-C or D-Bb.

The addition of a true preamp (versus the “passive preamp” on my 4 string Dean EAB) is groovy, but I use the onboard tuner far more as I seldom plug-in.

The deep body and 34” scale lead to loud, long-sustaining natural harmonics when unplugged; this has COMPLETELY changed my style and challenged my notions about what a bass guitar is capable of as a singer-songwriter solo instrument.

Can’t ask for more from a $300 bass.

The body is a bit of a nuisance and the case is enormous making it so difficult to transport (it's about 5ft 9in long) also it's got neck dive from hell. All that said it looks wild on stage and sounds killer so I'm not complaining one bit just little inconveniences that are the nature of the beast.

The neck dive definitely kills it for me. My Hillsboro is pretty well-balanced, and it's so versatile I think it's gonna be my new #1 - been using it at the church I attend a lot lately. I particularly love how the body on the Hillsboro was designed with comfort in mind, it fits so nicely and is so comfortable to play.

Your Hillsboro is a tasty looking piece, I've been leaning toward getting something more conventional looking, but I have an affinity for pointy basses.... It's my weakness...

That's so funny, because the Hillsboro honestly doesn't look conventional to me. To be honest, at first I didn't like the body shape and pickguard that much. It's still not my favorite per se, but I do like it a lot, especially since its so daggum comfortable. XD

Oh yeah the Hillsboro is it's own animal for sure and if we're being honest yours is the only one I've really ever liked the aesthetic of. I was referring to conventional as like Peavey Milleniums or Legator Helio, both of which I jammed on today at Guitar Center while I was checking out an issue with my Mesa M6. Maybe a NBD in the near future if the head doesn't cost me a ton to get fixed.

It's actually sort of between conventional and rad! :smug:
I didn't like it at first either, in fact certain ones I still don't like. But when the right finish, neck, hardware and PG combination comes along, whoa! Then I'm all in!drool

Especially this USA Custom one owned by @BradWorld on post 194

I'm fond of the Eric Bass Signature model (especially in black like I own), I like the PJ version you posted not long ago, and I like the pickguard design of the Jon Lawhon signature model (although I'm not sold on the sea foam green). Outside of that I don't care for them a ton, to be honest (especially the ones with jazz pickups, they look funny to me). That being said, I dunno how much $$$ Eric Bass got from his signature model and from helping them design the bass (his signature model was evidently what started the line), but it seems like Dean got the best end of the deal on that collaboration - they have so many variants of the Hillsboro now!

No 52 arrived yesterday at the local FedEx store...So much easier when I know I need to sign for it ahead of time!
Picked it up during my lunch hour and still had time for lunch by golly!
2006 Dean Edge Q4B from a Steel player who bough it new.
Not a mark on it. Like opening a time capsule.
Found an old Craigslist Ad that was posted since 2012. Contacted the seller who actually forgot about it and sure enough...it was still for sale!
Sellers pix. I'll post my actual pix later.

Hey fellow Dean Users,
Here is my so far unknown Dean Bass. Not sure what model it is, but B-Mac thinks it may be a limited run of the Zone. Threw DR Black Beauties on there because MusiciansFriend messed up my order and sent me these instead of DR Hi-Beams (luckily they fixed the order and let me keep them).

Plays beautify. Got this thing used for $150! Has some dings here and there, but doesn't affect playability. Actually sounds pretty nice. A more warm sounding bass, really dig it. Love using this bass on tunes that don't have a lot of runs. Just chill back and let the note sing.

One thing that I've gathered from all this talk about the different Hillsboro models is that Dean sure likes to mess around with their products a lot. Not that it's necessarily a bad thing, just that it can lead to some confusion when trying to figure out what version of a particular model you have.
Mighty fine looking signature you got goin' on there now that Dean Club is added! :)
