it is an oddball, at least for the design and I almost like it, but I wish they'd vintage tint the neck finish on the maple boards, the bleached look usually turns me off. anything else different / exceptional on the Hilly besides it's looks?

As far as the bleached look on the back of the maple necks that seems to be a bit more recent than the older Deans. By older I am referring to pre-2013.
I'm having a hard time even typing in the price... lol holy cow, that's way beyond my assumptions. but thx for confirming the neck tint on the older models, I figured that to be the case and was about to check it out. looking forward to what Dean has up their sleeves for their basic lines.
well of course you did lol you got the eye for deals, and you've kept it looking nice. I was surprised you're considering the road worn thinking you would have others which could whoop up on a basic P.
? not really into relic or road worn unless it was really something special or a great deal. I don't think I've seen any road worn or relic Dean anything?

@EdBo wanted a report so here goes:
I’ve never played a ‘real’ Fender Jazz and I only have two Jazz type basses but they don’t have the look. One’s a Warwick Corvette 32” basic passive and the others a Dean B2 Brian Bromberg Signature which is active. Here goes:
I am really surprised with this bass. 2015 NOS brand new. Still has plastic over pg. I only have an old fashioned bath scale but the 9.92 lb. weight listed by Dean appears to be dead on. Action out of the Dean box was good if just a tad high. Neck straight as an arrow with just a bit of relief. Frets not sharp and even. Neck is satin and 1.5” wide at the nut. As best as I could measure the neck is 3/4” thick at first fret. This is a fast neck for me anyhow.
I hate the noise from single coil pups. These are dead silent when matched with about half a tic leeway before you notice any hint of noise and even when neck and bidge volume are unmatched the noise is barely audible.
The bass has a good low tone to it with a good growl. Not as bright as I was anticipating for a Jazz bass with SC pups, but that could just be the strings. I have not yet played this with a strap so I can’t say if it has neck dive. It does have beefy large post open gear tuners which I like. I am liking this more and more. I’d be happy if I bought this at the original street price of $499 that Amazon is currently selling this for. The pups are not microphonic like @subfrequency ran into with his recent Deans. Finish is perfect. Neck plate has nice ‘Dean’ script logo.
The neck doesn’t have a separate FB. The frets are actually set right into the neck much like my Peavey T-40 and T-45.
