Defending Davie504 (OMG)b

the time he bought all the basses at the music stores in town and gave them away to fans. I'm sure he is getting a lot of people interested in bass. He found a way to make good money doing what he loves.
This! I thought it was awesome that he went and bought all the basses in the city (his $ plus it helps the businesses) A lot of the people who won a bass were beginners and people who couldnt afford one.

I don't have an issue with the guy, but it's not my cup of tea and you're not comparing the same thing at all, IMO.

Davie makes a living by making videos of himself noodling at home.

The others make (of have made) their living writing music and touring the world with bands to perform in front of audiences. Not the same deal at all. Yes, his technical mastery of the instrument is impressive, but it's all he has, and that's uninteresting to me.
And you know that how? Just because of his Youtube vids?

I tried watching one of his videos and couldn't handle the editing/production. Unwatchable.

He's very obviously a skilled player, though.

Couldn't agree more. I've got no problems with him as a bass player and he doesn't seem like a jerk of a person, but his editing is nearly schizophrenic. I've never made it all the way through a video of his because of that.

And you know that how? Just because of his Youtube vids?

Because that's all I've seen in the videos that I've watched. Doesn't mean he doesn't / couldn't play in a band, or write his own stuff, but that's not the angle he has chosen to market himself - and that's fine, but again it's not my cup of tea. The humor is ok and I can watch a few videos, but it gets old quick (again, only speaking for myself).

So I know Davie gets a bad rap because of the memes and stuff but I’ve also seen people get mad about his style.

I see a lot of ‘Davie would never be able to play in a band’ or ‘Davie is a one trick pony’ kinda thing and I may be kinda biased because he just released one of my favourite bass solos ever ().

I think Davie shouldn’t get such a bad rap because to make the solos enjoyable and new he has to slap, tap and play multiple other styles. I think he would be able to play in a band very well. Just because he plays like that doesn’t mean he can only play funk. Remember, he’s been playing for 10 years so he probably hasn’t only looked into funk.

In fact, if Davie gets criticised like this then what about Marcus Miller? Flea? And dare I say Victor Wooten. Heck, Jaco wasn’t your typical player. But in my book all these players are brilliant.

So what are your opinions on this? I’d love to hear what you have to say about this or just Davie in general.

I don't think the problem is with his bass playing, but with what he is doing to maintain his status as an influencer. I have watched a few of his videos. The intent is primarily to entertain rather than teach, and I don't find the type of material he posts very interesting. There are lot's of popular things that I don't like.

For awhile he was showing up regularly in my YouTube suggestions and I found it very irritating because I don't have any interest in influencer content, and there is nothing in my YouTube history to suggest I would since I delete everything from my history except news related programs. But I haven't bothered to bash or block him, I just ignore the content.

Lately I have been getting suggestions to watch videos from another influencer named Flair that I find equally irritating. The videos are always about something crazy he is doing on his "farm," and often it relates fishing.

I just checked and Flair has 1.97M subscribers, so I suspect the YouTube algorithms are suggesting I watch his crap simply because it is popular.

For context Davie504 has 7.89M subscribers and I would guess he is making some serious scratch off ads. Obviously he's doing very well for himself. I doubt he cares what I think about his videos, and I am okay with it.

which I find irrational.

Looking for rationality from the masses on the internet was your only blunder, here...

Davie is obviously a good bass player. The man has a sponsor (which the majority of people watching him will never have), a successful YT channel, etc. If he weren't doing things right, none of us would've even heard of the guy lol.

As they say, "haters gon' hate".
We like what we like, just like the next person. I say enjoy his vids, his bass-specific sense of humor, his not-so-bass-specific sense of humor, and let the man live. And if it's not one person's cup'o'tea, they can easily find other things on YT.

Just listening to the bass, there are worse players making more money at it.

Then throw in the AWESOME entertainment value?

I'd create a band of simple songs just to have him be bassist and put on fun shows!

Update: wrong video (that's what happens when you have 3 youtube tabs open). LoL. Davie's a really good player and fun to watch... I wonder what he's like to hang out with, though?
