Typically one doesn’t apply for a job by opening with the fact they dislike the place of which they are seeking employment.

His earlier videos had a lot more substance than his newer fluffed out meme-ish (is that a word?) production stuff.

Every once in a while he comes up with something interesting for a video.

I think he's a great player and deserves all the respect in the world from the bass playing community.
...even if I do skip through most of his wacky nonsense videos these days.

I think Davie shouldn’t get such a bad rap because to make the solos enjoyable and new he has to slap, tap and play multiple other styles. I think he would be able to play in a band very well. Just because he plays like that doesn’t mean he can only play funk. Remember, he’s been playing for 10 years so he probably hasn’t only looked into funk.

In fact, if Davie gets criticised like this then what about Marcus Miller? Flea? And dare I say Victor Wooten. Heck, Jaco wasn’t your typical player. But in my book all these players are brilliant.

So what are your opinions on this? I’d love to hear what you have to say about this or just Davie in general.

His target audience are most likely not bass players. If he just sat there and shredded he probably wouldn't have half the subscribers, like a thousand other youtubers.

He has made a living at playing bass and is an awesome player. IMHO, he is a little over the top but I still watch him with my mouth open thinking how in the heck did pull that off.

Well, thanks to this thread I just checked out his videos. Actually a couple of them, with his girlfriend, or at least a young woman who he describes as his girlfriend. My take on his videos: (1) he sounds like every other Youtube slap player, and (2) that young woman is pretty. She was the highlight of the videos for me.

I don't really care one way or another regarding Davie - my son likes him and he is learning bass as well , but what bothers me is people here demeaning people who don't make as much as him. If a guy sings karaoke and I don't like it and he happens to be a millionaire, does that automatically make me a bad person because I am in the 97%. I really don't understand the logic of that. Youttube has a thumbs up and down and many times it doesn't influence whether I'd like a video.

Did you miss the part where he gave her credit for his success? Or the clips where they looked at each other with what appears to be genuine adoration?

I only watched it once, but I didn’t see anything that would have caused me to claim he was guilty of misogyny, not once, but twice in this thread.

Can you point me to the time stamp in the video that offended you? I clearly missed it.

As a fellow italian, I followed his channel for a while and I respect his work on YT. It was fun but eventually I unsubsribed because it became very boring for me. The guy is funny and has chops of course, but I wouldn't call his channel a "bass channel". There's some bass but it's "decorative" imho. He's making the same transformation PewDiePie did from "straight up gaming" to "drama with some gaming". He's doing the same thing, imho.
I definitely prefer no frills YT bassists like Nathan Navarro, Marcelo Feldman, David Caraccio...
David Caraccio is a freaking monster, go check him out he's unbelievable.
