DemonFX Pedals - Any good?

Is it just me?
With all that knob twirling, it doesn't sound all that different than bypassed.

That's YT for you. Plus I don't think his assistant really knew much about the way the pedal functioned. For example, doing a full sweep of the mid frequency selector is great, but not if your mid gain is dead flat. It's not going to boost or cut anything. I think it has great potential, and given the price it's not a big leap to find out one way or the other.

I'm good on the bass & treble side, but lacking mid control bugs me. I think one of these in is my near future - plus good gain stacking is always useful for hitting OD pedals downstream a little harder.
I mainly use it with my fretted bass, which just has an EMG P, and an EMG booster switch, but no active tone. Also flatwounds. I put it after my American Sound pedal which warms things up but can get a little dark. The harmonic booster puts some brightness and roundness in. And, really, it helps provide a little roundwoundiness to my flats. I’ll also leave it on if I turn on the overdrive on my Battalion (which I mainly use for my fretless). I don’t generally use it with my fretless. I’m not really looking for “brightness” with that.

Received the Harmonic Booster today - it's another winner, IMO. It's a fantastic sounding pedal - as all of them I've tried has been! The Harmonic Booster has a lot of boost and is very quiet while doing it. I'd been using my TC Electronic Spark as my main clean boost pedal, and it's been great. But I like the HB even more - there's just a ton more tones you can get from the Harmonic Booster with the Mids and the Character knob. I'll still be keeping the Spark for band rehearsal, but the Harmonic Booster is coming to the gigs. I'm running the Harmonic Booster in from of the D7K, and it's awesome!!

Good to know that they work together as the originals do!

I keep telling myself I don't need the Harmonic Booster. I have a really nice EQ and I decided to keep the MXR micro amp after all. I can get all of these tones if I twist things on items I already have. But the damn thing is singing to me..

I was in the exact same place with whether I needed it or not, turns out it sounds better than what I was previously using & it works exceptionally well as both a stand alone preamp and in front of drive pedals.

It could easily replace two, maybe three things in my chain. I don't need it...I don't need it...I don't need it...ahhh my girlfriend is gonna unalive me. :)

okay so,

I was looking to find a used analogman bass chorus. One of these was recommended at the bottom of the page from ebay.

was listed for $60 on ebay i think.

so i started googling.

ordering diret from ali express, the price was just too damn cheap not to try. I need some dirt for guitar, so i figured i'd try those.

i had used an analogman chorus on my board for years and while i cant a/b them, i can certainly give my thoughts on how they compare when i get it. the others will be interesting as well to get an overall idea.

from what i gather, they generally make actual exact copies of the circuit. some other reviews of various pedals do report the sound being as close to identical as can be.

No i don't like that they also copy the art and it's getting into counterfeit territory rather than homage. but at the end of the day, nearly every pedal is a copy of something else.

will definitely report back when i have them.

okay, i finally got the pedals (...)

the analogman mini chorus was a staple in my rig for many, many years. I know it very well. No, i do not have one in studio to compare it to. but yes, i am very confident in my comments.

This pedal is an exact replica and nobody can tell the different in a blind test.

Also mind you, i'm not a novice when it comes to chorus pedals. I currently own i think 4 of them. I have easily owned a dozen in my life, and use them all the time. This is as premium as any chorus pedal there is (both the analogman and this clone.)

I am absolutely blown away by this thing. Perhaps it would not be as road worthy as the original, as only time and use can tell. but as far as tone goes? This is a 10/10 home run (...)

I just ordered the mini chorus, Call 76, and Harmonic Booster through Ali Express.
They quoted me 20 days for delivery.
Have you guys had similar shipping times?

OK...
After reading about it here a few weeks ago, ordered the Mini Chorus off Amazon today, shipping confirmed minutes after ordering, so maybe I'll get it before the weekend. My first clone purchase, I'm pretty sure. I have more use for utility pedals than real fx pedals, but chorus is one effect I am picky about, along with OD. I tried many chorus pedals and currently use the Bass Clone, which I think is awesome, at any price point. I also loved the MXR Stereo Chorus, but can't fit it on my current and no, ain't changing board.... don't intend to through that hell again.

The Analogman is still on my radar, just can't justify spending that amount at this time for an effect I use for 1 song in the current 25-song setlist. Maybe one day I will, but right now, it just don't make any sense to me and for that matter, I should take the Clone off the board and use one of the Zoom MS60B's chorus patches for that song. But I'm picky when it come to chorus and analog is the way to go for me.

The Mini Chorus looks promising, really like the mix and deep controls and who knows, if I like it, it might (will) make me wonder how the real thing sounds and I'll probably end up buying one anyway. Excellent case of typical pedalmongering pretzel logic.

Mini chorus just in. Just enough lunch time left for a 5-minute tryout. Sounds good, is it going to be good enough to replace the EHX Bass Clone, not sure, but more testing to come, will A/B them later tonight. Seems well built, decent quality for the price, pretty much in the same ballpark as the Clone in that respect. Will take a look inside also later.

My ears are telling me the switch positions are these ?
up: thick
middle: thin
down: regular

Regular and depth have enough low-end, thin is.... well, thin.

Settings for now:
speed and depth 10 oc
mix : noon
switch: alternating between regular and thick, with a slight preference for regular, low-end seems less effected.

The Harmonic Booster is calling my name - only one of my active basses has a 3-band EQ. My others have only Bass & Treble - I think the Booster could really be a handy tool. Plus the Character Knob seems interesting.

The Character knob on this clone is essentially useless and does not even remotely act like the Darkglass. The Character knob on the Darkglass is a major reason to buy the pedal. IMHO overall the clone is a waste of money even at that price.

The clone doesn't have much in common with the Darkglass other than the aesthetics.

i'm not so sure about that. i have the darkglass original. IMO, the DemonFX video demo shows that they have no idea of how to demo the mid gain, mid freq and character controls on it.

I agree the person adjusting the knobs obviously didn't understand the function of mid gain and mid frequency controls. However the character knob should have a very dramatic effect on the overall tone - even if everything else is flat or not.

Without the character knob the pedal is essentially a basic EQ - fixed low-frequency, fixed high-frequency, semi-parametric mids and the boost.

I've got two of the dark glass harmonic booster pedals and the character knobs do not sound anything like the clone demo. Again, just my opinion.

I have a Pearl White autowah and really like it. I don't know exactly how it would compare to the Mad Professor Snow White, but after using the DemonFx, I want to try the real thing. I'll take the DemonFx off my board when I find one, but I may as well enjoy it until that day comes.
