DemonFX Pedals - Any good?

Opened up the Mini chorus and saw there's an internal trimpot, anyone know what it does ? Website don't say a thing about it. Of course I wanna play with it, but wisdom says gather knowledge first... I send an info request on it to the maker, let's see if and what they answer....

DO NOT adjust it! it balances the sweep of the chorus. it should be done on an oscilliscope.

The Character knob on this clone is essentially useless...

Couldn't agree less. The Character Knob is perhaps the best function on the HB clone. The sweep range takes it from a dry & tight response to something with a little more oomph and also bit of mid scoop. lt essentially reminds me somewhat of Sans Amp's speaker emulation - only completely user controllable. I have some basses that have a very focused, modern sound and I use the Character knob to add a little more vintagey vibe to them in a mix. Other basses I own are warmer, with a more traditional voice, and I tend to use lighter Character knob settings with those.

I've never used the Darkglass version, but the Demonfx HB is an always on pedal for me. The EQ seems to have good freq set points, Boost know has plenty of head room and I think the Character Knob is a wet/dry knob and adds a little touch of spice to the tone.

I agree: the character knob is where “the magic happens”. I don’t have the DG original, but in the YT knob twiddling videos it doesn’t seem like it’s dramatically different than what I get.

Tell me if your pedal does this:
Set the bass and treble pots at 12:00 which one would think would be 0 dB cut/boost. Cycle on and off at unity gain.
I think these controls start boosting at more like 11:00.

Also, rolling off the treble control while minding your amp EQ can sound really good.

This is why you can't completely go off what you see on the tube. Everyone's going to get something a little different from the same piece of gear. All you can do is see as many videos as possible and try to make a couple generalizations.

After trying the Mini-Chorus with Thunderbird, Stingray and Jazz basses, I'll be using those settings : Speed and mix at 10oc, depth 2 oc, with toggle switch in the down position. I get a smooth chorus sound with almost-intact foundation, as far as I can tell.

I go for a moderate chorus effect and whatever pedal I'm using, the settings will vary of course, but will still give out a moderate effect. Settings for settings, the Mini-Chorus is subtler than the Bass Clone, more along the lines of the MXR BCD with the flanger off and definitely has its own voice. I would say similar to a Boss CEB-3, but much warmer. I'd be curious to hear what someone who owns an old analog Boss chorus would have to say about the Mini-Chorus, I wouldn't be surprised to hear they are similar.

I don't have any of the chorus pedals in my profile anymore, so I A/B'd the Mini with a couple of chorus patches from the Zoom MS60B (I prefer the Vintage, Stereo and Clone patches), just for fun, which is like comparing green apples and red apples, the mini being analog, but still gives a perspective. I can't say it blows them out of the water, but it does have a more natural-souding chorus than those patches. I honestly could get by in my current band with the Vintage chorus patch, but that would be too simple a solution...

I do recommend the pedal if one's looking for an inexpensive chorus pedal and/or an alternative to the EHX Bass Clone. The mini chorus will stay on my board for now, but I'm not putting the Bass Clone in classifieds yet...

It does feel like there is some slight boost of bass & treble at the noon settings while at unity gain. Probably intentional, like how most amp manufacturers will usually bake in a little bit of signature EQ tone even though the amp knobs are set "flat".

I agree the person adjusting the knobs obviously didn't understand the function of mid gain and mid frequency controls. However the character knob should have a very dramatic effect on the overall tone - even if everything else is flat or not.

Without the character knob the pedal is essentially a basic EQ - fixed low-frequency, fixed high-frequency, semi-parametric mids and the boost.

I've got two of the dark glass harmonic booster pedals and the character knobs do not sound anything like the clone demo. Again, just my opinion.

The Character Knob is the Snakeoyl-pentometer and functions cromulently.
It adjusts the curve of the flambulator when turned sidewise and attenuates the aural-cervix when rotated counter-sidewise.
The manner in which it hydrates my ears is worth the price of admission alone.

Demon FX Call 76 compressor pedal.
The first one I bought from Ali did not work. Today I bought one from Amazon and it also does not work.
TWO BRAND NEW PEDALS DEAD IN THE BOX.
Both pass signal but there is no compression or gain reduction evident.
I know that @johnk_10 had one that worked well but I'm done with these compressors.
Have to admit the chorus and Harmonic Booster clone work well though.

played my first show with the new preamp. I was blown away. The punch and growl were so good. I really wasn’t sure if it would translate but it did indeed. Lots of props on my sound last night. I’m a believer.

Looks like you’re primarily using it for a clean sound?
I use the distortion channel for when I switch to using my fingers. It adds bite and some push to the signal. It’s not very dirty but that was never my intent anyway. So the main strength of this for me was the tone of the clean channel for a pick and then adding the distortion for finger. Blended just enough to make them both hit the same gain input level on the board. It worked perfectly.

Just found this effects and I need (want) a compressor! Between Cali 76 and Super Symmetry, which one better? Had a Hyper Luminal and love it, need to sold it because I need money. If the Super Symmetry's clone anything near the Hyper Luminal, I'll order it to cover my need.
