Does anyone else notice how a lot of old punk rock stars seem to have a depressing world view?

I almost want to tell them to grow up. Get a haircut. Shave. Go to business college. Read Dale Carnegie - How to win friends and influence people. Just say no to drugs.

The only people who ever thought you were cool are people you wouldn't want to know anyway.

You've bought into a lie and wasted most of your lives. It's not too late to turn your lives around.

Maybe that's a little drastic. But some of these people just need to grow up.
No I’ve noticed how a lot of old punk rockers run businesses

Yeah, Johnny Rotten turned into a Trump supporter.

People who made their mark with cynicism in their music should turn out to be cynical in late life? Shocked, I tell you!
Cynicism is not a defining characteristic of punk rock. The punk rock that I and many others listened to (and still listen to) expresses many positive and hopeful attitudes. For example, the entire thesis of the Bad Brains is "PMA" or "Positive Mental Attitude."

Perhaps their outlook was dim from the beginning and they are still right. Look at lyrics from the late 70's and early 80's and tell me these guys didn't predict the future!

Fact check of each of your despressing points, in order:

1. 'A global pandemic.' Very few people who get COVID are so much as hospitalized. However, it is a problem. But, there is a vaccine that is becoming increasingly easily available. This, too, shall pass.
2. 'Global warming.' I have no doubt that what we're doing is detrimental to the environment. But it's being sold to you as more dire than it actually is in reality. NYC was supposed to be under water by 2012. We were told that repeatedly. I'm still waiting. As I type this, we are getting snow tomorrow where I lived. Where I used to live, we went, in my lifetime, from 4 distinct seasons to July/August and Winter. 'Colder is warmer' is classic Orwellian double speak. Something doesn't pass the sniff test. I wouldn't worry too much about this.
3. 'Species of plants and animals going extinct everyday.' Not only is this not happening, but we are discovering new species every day. The US has more forest than it did 100 years ago. Being brainwashed is a choice. You can choose not to be brainwashed.
4. 'An extremely polarized USA.' True, but being polarized is a choice. One of the central messages of punk is to do your own thinking. If you choose to become one of the polarized - and I'm not saying you have - then you are being brainwashed and not doing your own thinking.
5. '23 trillion dollar USA debt'. Not exactly. It's the interest that's a problem, not the T Bills themselves. And it is a problem. But that figure is not at all accurate.
6. 'Really bad social issues'. Maybe. Maybe not. Such as?
7. 'WIII hanging over our heads for the past 70 years.' Not to worry. WWIII will never happen. There's too much real estate involved.
8. 'Need crime, murder, starvation and all the other lovelies be mentioned?' If you live in the US and were born during or after 1964, the US has never been safer in your lifetime than right now. Source: FBI.

Bottom line: Chin up. Life ain't so bad. Don't believe the hype. Maybe, just maybe, you are being fed a bunch of 'depressing' BS so that you'll look to the government to come along and be the savior so that they increase their power because you are conditioned to become more reliant on them. None of this is a rosy outlook - just a more realistic one.

About the only truly depressing thing in your comment was the mention of the other 2 'Decline' movies. For some bizarre reason that no one ever questioned, it became fashionable for punks to cross over and become metal fans - fans of the very music and attitude that they railed against.

I would submit to OP that the only reason that these old punks are still angry is because it's their job, their shtick. It's all an act. And the only lie you were sold was 'we can't play our instruments.' the vast majority of those punks were great musicians. Getting up and playing barre chords for 2 hours without stopping (Johnny Ramone) is hard. Only good musician can do that.

At age 69, I don't really care. At age 15, I wouldn't care. There's nothing I can do about anything anyway. Life never has a guarantee beyond a second in time.

Your post was read. And that was it.
