Dingwall Combustion NG2

I have a Standard combustion but tried out the NG2 as well, they are both great and play basically the same.

The NG2 has a much heavier, gnarly tone more metal focussed (Which is to be expected as the Nolly Signature model.) I went with the standard combustion as it was a little better at the non metal stuff I play. And it is still more than adequate for the metal I do play.

I went with tne standard also. It was a conscious decision because I did not want the glaring visuals of the ng2 and wanted the wider pup spacing. Ended up with a swamp ash v4 combustion in transparent white and couldn't be happier. Looks great although a little more conservative than the ng2 and I love the emg active circuitry. This surprised me as I have not been that keen on emg in the past but Sheldon told me that it had been designed specially in conjunction with Bobby Vega I think which explains a lot. Fabulous bass, it is hard to imagine how the more expensive models can be significantly better.

After hearing this review, I think this bass could do well in a funk or Urban Gospel setting.

I got my Ferrari yellow NG-2 YESTERDAY. It is Gnarly! Great, focused tone. The high mids boost and cut while leaving the highs alone.

The build quality is on par with high end American basses. Not a flaw anywhere, and the fretwork and action is amazing.

I immediately went and ordered a "regular" Combustion for the more traditional pickup and electronics arrangement. This one reminds me of a stingray but with more GNARL. But it's good to know about the routing. I really do love the NG-2 both functionally and aesthetically. It's SLEEK!

So now I don't know if I should sell this awesome yellow beast.

Gig Friday (tomorrow) which will include some funk. Urban gospel at church Sunday. I will report back here. I suspect it will do both well the same way my Stingray 5 does both well, but with that AWESOME B-string.

I guess you don't know much about CA geography. My state is about the same size as your whole Island. Berkeley is 6 hours away, San Diego is 3 hours away, and Bass Strings Online isn't a store in the traditional sense. Its more of a shipping warehouse with a store front, I doubt he has a Dingwall there in the shop.
I would also bet that the other two places would have a single Dingwall. I've never ceased to be disappointed by the selection of basses anyone has.

I traveled 3 hours to get mine, And fuel is way more expensive over here. But was merely said in jest, I understand it can be tough to find the right bass stuff. There is rarely anything interesting in stock.

TB is the most "in the know" for the best gear. But I feel ya. I think I have the only Dingwall in the cincinnati ohio area. And I know there are a half dozed Greenboy cans around here. And I have one of 3 or so of the thunderchild cabs.

Zombie green is in these days! I love it

I think the colors are great for a touring artist. I always used some louder paint jobs on rock tours because they stick out under the lights and people love it.

If I was playing more conservative shows it may be overkill, but it could still be cool. Just matters your personality and what you are comfortable with.

I love the aesthetics. Most of my gigs are more conservative. I am a do it all sub in a lot of genres, but not hard rock or metal, and I'm not touring (or even have lights most of the time). So I may flip this one for the natural wood combustion I have coming.

This is a key reason why I went for my standard combustion in swamp ash and transparent white. Plus I wasn't fond of the grungy tone the ng2 demo vids had at the time. I am more of a traditional bassist and the standard seemed a better fit.

Can't speak for Combustions, but I have a Sklar that I use for about anything. I can get that P-Bass sound if needed and about anything else. I will say the Banjo frets were a little tough to get used to. The fanned fret layout is a problem for a very short time. Like a forgettable short time >300 seconds. Unlike some folks I find the upper register to be very easy to use. I did put a set of TI flats on and it is now a BASS bass. As for trying one, they just don't sit in the stores long and there are not many dealers either. In short, Dingwall is selling all it makes.
