Session tends to do really long reviews, fast forward a bit and hear a really edgy modern tone.
This thing is pretty gnarly! I want to hear someone play Gospel on it!
The preamp is really set up for heavier styles. Boosts are at 70, 500 and 2.8k.
More funk style pres are usually at 50-60hz and 4-6k.

Looooooooooove my Dingwalls. I don't have an NG2, but I have two Combustions (an "old" one and a brand new V4).
They're pretty different from the Sklar model, though. Neck profile, body woods, Skylar has a compound radius, different pickups (in different locations)... and so on. But, if you can, do try out a Dingwall. They do a lot of things very well, though I'm not sure I see you playing one, Doc!

I love heavy sounding bass tones even though I don't usually play that sort of music. I played a Combustion at Bass Central maybe five years ago and I thought 35" scale Yamaha TRB II hung pretty tight with the Dingwall B, but the two soapbars side by side configuration always gets my attention.
The super neat thing, IMO anyway, is that the Combustion V4 and NG2 are routed the same. So, if you pickup a vanilla Combustion V4, you can move the pickups to be in the same position as the NG2 (and vice versa, you can move an NG2 to the Combustion position). This is really cool, as it adds more variety... like the NG2 pickup position but the Combustion preamp? Buy a Combustion and move the pickups.
The only caveat is that you'd need a new pickguard.

These have also been a recent interest for me but of all the stupid things I don't love the Adidas-esque three stripe PG detail. I guess it is easy enough to have another made. But it sounds like I like and an affordable way to try one out.
How is the import quality and playability? I've owned many imports across many brands, of varying degrees of quality, but I don't think any were Chinese.

Both of mine are top notch. These are more like the import Lakland Skylines - guys at the Dingwall shop inspect and setup every Combustion that comes through before it goes out to a dealer. Playability is superb, just like the Canadian ones I've played.
The only issue I have at all is that the pickguard on my V4 has an itsy bitty "warp" to it, where one small spot of it is lifted off the body.

Well, that's a solid endorsement IMHO as I own two Skylines and have owned several previously and all were very high quality. And if the pickguard is the biggest issue you're doing really well. Thank you.

You left yourself pretty unrestricted there, I'd say.
I'll say it's moved near the top of mine. And it's a short list at the moment

I won't go into any detail, but I think things on the new bass front will be settled soon.

It's interesting that, for the most part, it's the metal guys who have caught on to the Dingwall multiscale bass. The truth is, these basses excel in any genre of music - from Country to Funk and everything in between.
I put in an NG-2 order sometime around August, and last I heard from Sheldon its going to arrive in early February. Super stoked!
I think I'm going to put it in G0 standard like Nolly does to play along with guitarists in drop C. My band does everything in drop C, and I think it'd be fun to be able to dip down below C now and then.
