Sorry for the green tint-this was from last night's show.

I'm running a wet/dry setup. The signal splits at the Radial ABY box,

B-out>SpectraComp>top SansAmp>one side of a QSC GX7 power amp>cab.

A-out>Boss ES-8>(loop 1)bottom SpectraComp>(loop 2)BOD>(loop 3)VT Bass>(loop 4)B7KU>(loop 5)BEF>(loop 6)Corona Chorus>(loop 7)Helix Phaser, signal then goes out of the ES-8 into the Spark clean boost>Sentry Noise Gate>bottom SansAmp>other side of the power amp>other cab. The dry SansAmp gets the DI signal and the wet cab gets mic'd.

It sounds way more complicated than it actually is and it sounds pretty glorious. The schlep is the same, so I'm having a pretty good time...:thumbsup::D:bassist:

I had it wired with a passive tone and 3 bands of eq I had some custom Maple control knobs made because I needed a concentric bass/treble control. The line markers in them are ebony. They look killer IMO and the passive tone option is fantastic with this preamp. I have a Darkglass in my AB1 and have had Glockenklangs in 3 other Dingwalls I have owned and the Nordstrand holds it own with the other pre's and at this point in time may be my favourite of the 3. That opinion could change tomorrow like all my bass related opinions but for anyone considering a Nordstrand in a Dingwall I would definitely recommend it as an option.

Yeah, it's this that still makes me yo-yo between wanting a standard Combustion-3 vs NG-3

the pickup placement in the combustions and ng2 has a lot to do with the difference in tone as well. I bought a combustion v4 as opposed to a ng2 because I preferred the tone. I thought it was because of the preamps but I know have a ab1 with a tone capsule and it is amazing so I think it probably had more to do with pickup placement.

I used it for songs that are faster/quicker where some tightness would be a benefit. Also works pretty nicely in tandem with the Envelope. Sounds really nice with the NG3 in bridge/series position. I had been worried at home about some perceived added brightness, but that didn't 'read' in the band setting.

I will say as a side note that it does have a non-true-bypass buffer that's always on in your signal chain. I found it noticeable, but not in a bad way...just in a oh, that's a bit different kind of way.

Yeah, you're spot on re: Dry/HPF - they've been the "secret sauce" to me that made me fall in love with the CB.

This is what makes me so curious about the difference between the new 3-pickup versions of each. The pickups will be essentially in the same spot, so the differences in tone will then be more down to woods and electronics

I may not be the fastest bunny in the hutch, but the unit takes HPF in tandem with the parallel dry signal does an interesting thing. It tightens up your note envelope while still sounding natural. I dialed up a feel I liked with the in/out/ratio/attack knobs then I pulled up the Dry then HPF until it felt like an 'uber-version' or idealized version of the tone I envision, with the same highs and expression and feeling less stomped.

I read a post from Sheldon in the dingwall forum awhile back about how you can treat the high moms mids control on the time capsule almost like a passive tone control. Cutting it a bit really tames the sound and takes away some brittleness and clank the same way rolling back a passive tone would. I tried it out and it works great. I wasn't sure what to do with this high mid until looking at it this way. The bass control on the tone capsule is a beast and sounds amazing with a slight boost.

The NG was literally designed for the TC, so it works the best in that bass out of any I've tried: the series setting without it is actually pretty honky and lacking in aggressiveness.

The TC paired rather poorly with the custom ash/wenge AB I spec'd though, it gutted the mids and made the presence area rather harsh.

The pickups are in exactly the same spot: the bodies are universally routed.

The only differences will literally be the ash bodies on some Combustions and the different preamps. Last I checked they weren't hipping the roaewood fretboard Combustions outside of Canada due to CITES hassles.

I do wish it wasn't so hard to find two Dingwalls in Australia - doing an A/B would end this once and for all, I'm sure of it.

They're offering Pao Ferro on the standard Combustions now too, probably to compensate a little for this?
