Thank you SO MUCH for the help! I probably would have fell over dead if I had of done this by myself! I dont think I shut up for 10 seconds the whole time. It was fun though, as most of these players had never seen Dingwalls before and the exclamations at the amazing tones and the watching of their eyes lighting up were priceless.
It took until 11:30 last night to pack the van and get home.

i thought that one may be your fav. I think it was both mine and Ken’s fav. The verdict is the 3x DOES add to the equation. This is one of the first production NG3 4’s.

Has anyone played both a D-bird and an ABZ4? How would you compare the feel? (I managed only a few minutes on that silver D-bird in the Bass Shop Seattle). Thinking about a D-Bird at some point, but on the fence about an ABZ4 that would be available a whole bunch faster.

I have not played an abz4, but I can tell you that there is a huge difference in the number of available notes you can reach, if that is an issue for you.

Right. On the ABZ, I can fret the 24th fret on the G string without my hand even contacting the body. On the D-bird, my left hand starts to contact the body on the 17th fret, and on the 18th fret the body starts to get in the way a little. On the 19th and 20th frets, you have to work pretty hard to stretch around the cutaway to fret the notes. Such is the price of coolness. It ranks up there as one of the very top coolest looking bases ever made, IMHO. The most amazing part is that you can take both hands off the D-Bird and literally do jumping jacks all day, and the bass will not move. In other words, absolutely zero neck dive. But you won't be doing any jazzy solos above the 17th fret on it, or at least I won't.

You can either replace the not or file it with a not not you need to really know what you are doing, or have somebody do it who really knows what they are doing. You need to make it wider but not deeper. The way theway the headstock

Very interesting. I just tried a beautiful brand new non-Dingwall fan fret bass with SIT strings. The B string was flopping like a loose rubber band, and it sounded no better than a rubber band or a piece of string stretched across a cardboard box. Sounds like you had the same experience. I guess maybe it was just the strings and not the bass. I already returned the bass because it was so dead sounding overall.

If you are interested enough to endure a long and boring video, I did a recording to compare the bass with SIT strings against a couple others I had handy.

Yeah, I was really disappointed in the B on that bass - wondered if it spoke volumes about the bass, but no - it was all in the strings. The bass is great. I actually find it difficult to believe that people use/like such a floppy B string and was wondering if it was defective, but two in a row points to that is just how it is. Difference in night and day with the hex-core. It may also be that the "quantum nickle" works fine too.

I am looking at getting a Hipshot D-Tuner for my NG2. Does anyone know if the correct replacement is the HE6Y 3/8 or 1/2?

3/8 is the correct size, the screws that come with the USA ones are not a good fit though. I reused the originals.

Played my Combustion at church yesterday. I am no pro player for sure, but have fun. After the Slip Knot cover, I thought I would post something from the opposite end of the spectrum.

I like it but havent strung Dingwalls with it as of yet, but yes other 5-string basses. On a P type other, just yesterday replaced a floppy B string with a DR hex core (same size) and it made a HUGE difference in tension and sound. I believe the other string was an SIT. I was going to put the pure blues on that bass and may still, but it was emergency floppy elimination.

Experimented a while back with SIT strings on my Lightwave bass. Really wanted to like them they are a company right here in Ohio. I could not like them no matter how hard I tried to convince myself.

I think I’m going to request visitation rights!!!! Every second Sunday and alternating birthdays!!!? Sound fair?

It’s called honey amber burst.

It’s been in and out of my life a bit. I had it for a while and sold it to a friend. I don’t want to get into to much detail. lets just say it needed a new set up after the last one wasn’t done the best for his playing style.

If I recall it’s an 09. I have the info somewhere. It’s soooo growly. I wanted to put a fretless neck on it or defret this one but the wait time when I had it was going to be as long as my new build..... I was told.

It was part of this brood at one point.
