The shorter scale definitely helps! My "problem" is that my ribcage kind of pops out and every bass, no matter how the tummy cut was made, sits in a weird position on top of myribs when playing standing up. Sitting down the SJ feels awesome, tho
If the pin pulls the bass more to the right hand it'd definitely help, i suppose

I had a Fender case recently that had terrible balance, when putting it on / taking it off it was neck heavy (I realise sounds a bit silly when written down) and would swing around, it made the whole thing feel unwieldy and insecure.

I couldn't test the balance wearing it because I'm busy on a conference call, but I edited my post to which you replied, so scroll back up to see the photo and details.

Yeah, very much digging this D-Bird. Not only is it a wenge neck, it's also factory strung BEAD, which is awesome.
It's tied for first place as my coolest looking bass with this beauty... (Warning: Parallel frets depicted below. Not suitable for all audiences. Viewer discretion is advised.)

Additional D-Bird info: The D-Bird does not fit AT ALL in the Gator gig bag I mentioned earlier. (EDIT: it fits if you remove the padded velcro section in the bottom of the bag.)
To reiterate my earlier post, it WILL fit in the Protec Contego, although it's a very tight fit, with the tuners pressed firmly against one side of the case while the horn is pressed firmly against the other side of the case. So not ideal, but in a pinch, it works.
Certainly the best case for the D-Bird is the nice rectangular hardshell case that has a nice golden "D" logo on the outside and fits nice and tight like OJ's glove:

I dunno!!! I gotta say that the yellow/green Z takes it IMO for coolest looking in your collection.

I want cool looking but I always seem to go for pretty! Lol.

I’ve 3 designs for dingwalls that will probably never come to be that are way more cool then pretty but probably another 30 grand that I will never have.

I meant cool looking as distinct from gorgeous. No arguments about the green and yellow one, that is probably the most gorgeous-looking thing I have seen made of wood. Except, um, well, that faded blue jean gives it a run for its money, doesn't it. And so does this lovely new toy I got on a trade yesterday...

The D Bird does fit the Gator ProGo if you remove the velcro'd bumper at the bottom of the bag.

Ahh, you are right, good call. It does fit in there. It fits roughly the same as it does in the Contego. With the neck centered, the horn is causing the side of the case to bulge out a bit. But it is workable.
The first photo below shows where the neck goes if you center the body comfortably. The second photo shows where the body goes if you center the neck.
If the side of the case were hard, there is no way it would work. But because it is soft and flexible, it bulges out to accommodate.

Yep, I hope I didn't sound argumentative, but there are very few bags that fit the DBird, I didn't want this one summarily ruled out for anyone looking. It's what I currently use for mine, but I'm hoping Mono or someone makes one better suited. Perhaps with the apparent popularity of the new Epi VP T Bird, some bag maker will step up to the plate.

Not at all! I just figured "a picture is worth 1,000 words", so I thought it would be helpful to anyone making a decision to see exactly what they are getting into if they choose to use one of these bags, which as I said will certainly work, but are not a perfectly smooth fit.

If I had measurements or a d bird on hand is be tempted to give it a go at making a bag.
