I can just imagine that thing right there has got to have some of the nicest sounds of any Dingwall ever!!! When it came up I dreamt. Lol.

I was concerned about the CITES with the bubinga and weight otherwise I woulda been fighting ya for it. Oh yeah..... and the fact that i didn’t have any funds for it.

Interestingly CITES didn’t come into it; it was in the back of my mind.

It is heavy, I wouldn’t want to play standing with it for long. But seeing as I’m a slob who sits while playing it won’t be an issue.

The last guitar I shipped out to the states I was given the full 20 questions about woods used in the bass. I believe 2 departments called me. Probably CAN and US if I recall correctly. Since then I’ve done a bit of research and it doesn’t seem to be too big of a deal. The application is free but can take up to a month currently when shipping out I was told.

I’m a standing player. I play completely different when sitting and my Z36 is not light either. I wouldnt want it to be heavier.

Well, everyone. I did a thing today. Didn't do all of the thing necessary to bring it home (did most of the thing on the way out the door on a road trip, and didn't want it sitting in the hot car etc.)

The thing was putting the holding deposit on this:

2009 Prima Artist, serial 4591. It's in damn good shape - I was only able to find one very tiny scuff on the entire bass, and I'm almost certain it'll buff right out. I should be picking it up Saturday the 26th.

One of the best on the planet right there...congrats!

It does. Initial impressions are are good; this thing has such a rich tone particularly on the lower strings. First time I’ve had an F# string that works, tried a couple of times before. Still clear at the top end too.

It has a Darkglass TC, not sure about it yet. In passive mode it’s louder with a little more treble compared to active with controls flat. Checked the battery in case, over 9V.

Anyone here have a TC noticed that?

I know I coulda done the search... lol. Prob shoulda. But I swear every TC in a Dingwall I’ve seen has been 18v and maybe that would change the output?

Ah. The bass was built with a Glock originally. TC was aftermarket.

That explains it. Yes, Nate is right...DG TC all are hooked up to 2x 9v batteries from Dingwall. More headroom is a good thing.

Ive been searching for a good case for my NG2 and found a few I liked but some were pretty pricey. I came across Protec Cases and thought I’d give them a try. It arrived yesterday and it fits the Dingwall perfectly!
It has plenty of pockets, tuck away shoulder straps and the zipper is quality. Nice protection inside with adjustable padding and a nice neck brace. Overall this is a nice case and works really well with the NG2. Here are some pics showing off the case! Invalid Link Removed

Yep - that is a great case for sure. It is a Protec Contego CTG233. Bass San Diego introduced me to those when they recommended them for my NG2s, and I fell in love with them right away and have been using several of them ever since.
But Then Pete Skjold introduced me to this fantastic case from Gator, and I think I like them even more. They are loaded with features. I'm sure if I try to list them all, I would forget some. The inside is super plush, like nice enough to sleep in. (If only I could fit in there!) And it has a rain cover built-in, as well as a microfiber lined padded sleeve for an iPad or tablet. Also velcro straps for cable management, which was really thoughtful.
It does cost a little more than the Protec, but I do see it as a step up worthy of a few extra dollars.
I like that if the bass is dropped hard on the ground on its end, there is 3.4" of plush covered hard foam padding between the bass and the ground. Also, the neck is extremely well supported by the support block, yet no annoying velcro to deal with getting the bass in and out.

I bought three of them. I am planning to install one in an NG2. I hadn't considered putting one in a Super. Do you think it would be helpful, given that tiny short little scale on the Super? I suppose I could try putting one on the Super too. I'd have to give it some thought as to whether it would be useful. My Super is on the bench for some electrical work right now, so I will look into this after it's back together and playable.

Also any idea as to how high the neck sticks up when worn like a backpack? Being 6' plus and having a bass neck sticking way above your head means lots of potential for knocking into door frames if the straps are positioned low on the bag.

Strap Balance is just like my Sadowsky Portabag. Very well placed. I’m 6’ As well. The straps are adjustable and the neck can be adjusted at or below level of your head.

Can you explain what you mean by strap balance?

EDIT: The D-Bird fit a Contego is less than ideal. I'll try my best to explain this:
If you put the bass into the case with center line of the headstock right along the centerline of the case, the horn on the body doesn't fit into the case without pulling the side of the case out of the way to be able to squeeze the bass body in there.
Alternately, if you put the bass into the case with the body comfortably centered in the case, then the E/A tuners are sticking out of the case and you can't zip it.
You CAN get the bass into the case, and it WILL work, but you have to be aware that the horn is pressed so tightly against the side of the case that the shape of the case is slightly deformed from the pressure. And the tuners are also pressed tightly against the other side of the case.
