Well, I picked it up from Chad hours ago, but haven't been able to put it down. My fingers hurt a good deal and I have other things I need to tend to, so I have to stop for tonight. But daaaaaamn these Primas are smokin' nice.

Origin Effects Cali76-TX ... I recently have noticed the price on the used market of these discontinued units shot up from $400ish to $700! Crazy expensive, but I got mine a while back when they were cheaper. It's a great unit that I don't think I'll ever let go of.

I think the newer/smaller/cheaper units like the Cali76 Compact Bass and Compact Deluxe are great options. They're coming up regularly on the classifieds for $280 - which is a stellar price considering how nice those units are.

On my journey to the Cali76-TX I went through the Markbass Compressore and Darkglass Super Symmetry ... they were both too warm and vintage sounding for me. The Cali76 units can get you a bright and snappy kinda sound, and that's what I'm really after. Sounds like I'm hitting the strings harder than I actually am.

Right now on my home rig I’ve been using the FMR really nice compressor and I suppose it’s good. I know it’s not really designed for the application but it sounds nice. I’ve never used one until I needed to GAS on something else. That’s led to this. (Just assembled yesterday. I picked up the board for $60 including a G bus 8 power supply. ).

It’s every pedal I own slapped down in order of how I could utilize my short supply patch cables.

I figure I should try a DG pedal so I was thinking the super symmetry but the Cali 76 deluxe sounds like a great affordable used option as well. Which has me thinking about maybe trying there alpha omega ultra. I’ve never utilized any drive, fuzz or grit. I think the B7K ultra maybe be too much of that for my liking.... correct me if I’m wrong please.

Anyways...... I should have never entered this game. I have no desire to try them all but I am curious how a few will sound with the dingwalls. Envelope filters have caught my interest as well..... ugh.

Sorry for the siderail(especially knowing we’ve been down this road before but I think pedals cycle rotation more then basses. Maybe I’m wrong.) but being Dingwall players is why I have asked this group.... my fav group!!

I’m using a Cali76cb in front of a DSM OCSD with occasional Optical Comp (Diamond or new addition, Broughton) => DG VMT in front of those. The first two I listed are always on.

Compressors, filters, modulation, and preamps are my JAM! I have spent a small, or medium, fortune, trying out different versions of each of those. I have owned-the MXR(it was ok), the Empress(it was pretty fantastic. I'd go there again), the Cali76 CB(also fantastic! I'd definitely buy another one), the FEA DBCL(I don't think I'll ever sell this, even if I'm not using it), the Darkglass(it's a great comp, just not as great as the FEA or the Cali), The SpectraComp(It really is amazing what TCE does with one knob!), the compressor in the Fractal FX8 was surprisingly good, as is the LA Studio Comp in the Line 6 Helix. The only other two that I'm really interested in trying are the Smoothie and Warm Audio WA76. My issue with the Smoothie is I'm, most likely, going to breakout the Helix for live work, which negates the need for another pedal comp. The issue with the WA76 is I need another, bigger rack, and that's not what I'm after...

I'd say the best comps, for me, are the FEA and the Cali76, but the FEA has ELEVEN knobs and three switches! You can dial up an unusable comp setting that you may not be able to fix quickly. The Cali76 isn't as complicated, but you still need to figure out how to ratio, attack, release, how much dry signal, and how's the HPF mixing in all this. The SpectraComp has one knob and the ability to load different setups, almost on the fly. For that reason, I'll keep using the SpectraComp, if I keep my board in the starting lineup...

Seriously?! I am weeping tears of joy and jealousy right now! That rack of basses, including that PentaBuzz(?) is just, DAMN!!! Being me is a LOT of fun, but those pics really make me wanna be you...LOL!

Heh, thanks. The best part is that my wife bought the Prima as a gift. I gots the best wife ever. She's also the one that convinced me to pull the trigger on the green 6er (though I paid for that one :P).

And yeah, that's a pentabuzz hanging out in the rack. I haven't played a fretless dingwall (I'd have horrendous intonation), but, I've long considered Pedulla to be the epitome of fretless tone. I got that one for a pretty dang good deal, though it took me a few years to find a used one at my exact specs (unlined fretless, blue, barts).

Dude, you've got a great wife and a killer family of basses. My wife is also an enabler; when the Super P I own now came up for sale and I was drooling over it, she had picked up on the fact that my ABZ6 wasn't really fitting in perfectly with the classic rock band I was playing in at the time and egged me on to pick up the SP5. Honestly, I don't know how guys stay married when they're sneaking instruments into the house.

I really liked the original OvniFX Smoothie, and then the SD Studio Bass, then a self-built Madbean 4:1 until that died unexpectedly. Since I only play through headphones now, I just compression in my DAW. I'd really like a Broughton Apex, but scoring one when they're in stock is tougher than winning the lottery.
