It’s every pedal I own slapped down in order of how I could utilize my short supply patch cables.

I figure I should try a DG pedal so I was thinking the super symmetry but the Cali 76 deluxe sounds like a great affordable used option as well. Which has me thinking about maybe trying there alpha omega ultra. I’ve never utilized any drive, fuzz or grit. I think the B7K ultra maybe be too much of that for my liking.... correct me if I’m wrong please.

Anyways...... I should have never entered this game. I have no desire to try them all but I am curious how a few will sound with the dingwalls. Envelope filters have caught my interest as well..... ugh.

Sorry for the siderail(especially knowing we’ve been down this road before but I think pedals cycle rotation more then basses. Maybe I’m wrong.) but being Dingwall players is why I have asked this group.... my fav group!!

There is a fellow who posts to facebook with his Dingwall, alpha omehga ultra and B7k ultra. I will try to find a link for you. I generally don't use pedals but I do have a darkglass alpha-omega ultra hooked up in my showroom and have played the Dingwalls through it. I don't personally go for the heavy destruction distortion but with just a bit dialed in to give an edge is something I could see utilizing live; traditionally I haven't used pedals live since the early 80s. I can picture some recordings though.

I'm right with you on that one. Anytime I see threads about sneaking stuff past the wife or whatever, I show my wife and we both get a massive laugh out of it. She's a classically trained musician (Juliard as a kid for Violin and Piano, Soprano over the past ~10 years), so she completely "gets it" when it comes to music and having good tools (my entire bass collection doesn't add up to her violin, let alone the grand piano).
Anyway, I'm rambling on now. Just want the work day to be over so I can play my bass :D

This is maybe totally just honeymoon talk here, but, this Prima is so inspiring. I am comfortably playing parts that I've struggled for months on my ABs. I really think it's all in the neck...
Anyone know if the Prima neck is the same as the Z series? I prefer the looks of the AB bodies, but, I may have to work towards selling two of my ABs and getting Zs instead if the neck is the same.

I’m pretty certain it is the same profile. This was the thing that happened to me a while back. The Z works better for me. All about that feel.

Yes. The Primas are inspiring! I think the neck is very similar to the Z series. Very thin profile. It’s been a while since I had a Z.

Thanks for the feedback everyone in the compressors. Being that everyone is using something different you haven’t helped in the slightest. Lol. So instead of a new comp pedal I bought an AO ultra instead. Hahahha.
I figured I’d the more variety route vs a comp which isn’t something I’ve ever relied on before..... I’ll play with some of these as money opens up in the future.

There's no consensus, "absolute must have" out there (the Cali and Ovni come close). Check the Ovnilabs reviews, find the quality units, and compare the feature sets of the top ones--that's what determined my pick. You know, for when you get around to it.

That's a pretty good use of funds, especially since distortion is naturally compressed anyway! LOL! If you're still looking at different dirt, I HIGHLY recommend checking out the Tech 21 DP-3X dUg Pinnick is pedal. It's FAN-FRICKIN'-TASTIC, and I am truly NOT a dirt guy, but I LOVE that pedal!

I definitely want to check out that DP-3X to hear how it sounds. But I just picked up a Damnation Audio MBD-1, and it is pretty darn cool. I played the Super J with it for a couple of hours last night and had a hard time pulling the plug and going to bed. I was doing a lot of A/B comparison between the MBD-1 and the Alpha Omega with various settings, and at least through the headphones, I was liking the heaviness of the MBD-1 a little better. They are different enough, with little to no overlap, that it is probably worth it to have both. The MBD-1 has two separate volume controls, one for the dry signal, and one for the wet signal, so it is a little more flexible than just being able to blend in the wet signal. The depth knob is actually a bass knob, and it adds a massive amount of bottom across a broad frequency spectrum. It makes it sound like heavy early Sabbath stuff, extremely cool. I also got some really, really great clean tones out of it with the gain all the way down. Something similar to what I can get with the DG Ultra Vintage, but cannot get as easily with the Alpha Omega. Of course one does not buy a distortion pedal for clean tones. But it is nice when there are some very useful clean tones hidden in there.

Even though I'm not a dirt guy, I hear nothing but accolades for the MBD-1. I really wanna try one, but the DP-3X is so good at what it does. I keep wavering on the AO Ultra. I think Doug Castro is an amazing guy and Darkglass is just one of the best bass-centric company's out there, but nothing from DG that I've tried has worked for me, except the Super Symmetry Compressor, and I've got better comps than that one. I agree with you, the DP-3x sounds ok clean, but that's not why I got one, lol! I'm not using dUg's settings, so it doesn't sound like his rig, but getting that dirty, grindy top end, with a really fat bottom is surprisingly useful. I could, almost, leave it on all the time.

I'm contemplating putting my Helix back in service, as I've put together some cool patches that would make my gig life much easier, but I'll be running my DP-3X through one of the loops. It's too good to not use...
