Awesome - thanks for the info! So I guess my measurement of the D string diameter was off then. It's definitely not tapered, so I guess I do have the Medium Lights. Man, if these are "light", I really want to hear how heavy the non-light ones sound! I'll be ordering a set to try on a Z3.

I bought one after reading this here even though I had a perfectly good Korg. It is a luxury not waiting for the tuner to average the last second of input.

What I'm completely terrified of, is I'm going to fall in love with the 6, then I'ma get on here, and you enablers are gonna convince me that I absolutely do NEED a Z3 6-string...

I guess I just ended up with a Combustion v4. I've had it a few weeks and I've been messing with it at home and did take it out to practice last week to see how it worked with the band. It's (currently) an ash bodied-rosewood-fretboard 'natural' with pearloid pickguard. Standard EMG sized pickups & preamp, though I'm told the pickups are wired with the coils in series.
I was really surprised at how nice this bass sounds, pretty much most of my contact with EMG stuff has been not-positive, so yeah, paint judgemental me wrong on that. It came with fresh Dingwall nickel-steel strings and the neck dialed in pretty flat to start. I did drop the bridge pieces by a turn each (tried a turn and a half, but it was a little too optimistic) and that brought it down nearly as low as my NG3.
As I've opined before, I don't really do natural basses so eventually I'll have to work out a finish option that's amenable. The ash body and grain are nice, but I need some color.
Anyway, as with any situation some rain must fall, so just as I was testing the bass, I also was shelling out $1400 in new brakes for my car which mostly put the kibosh on any kind of bass purchasing with expendable cash. Said bass owner was chill and I handed off a bit more than 50% and will keep handing more dollars along the way on it.

Yes, a Z.
I really want a clear finish on this but I also don't want the lighter parts to be yellowish, so I've asked them to add a red tint so it won't be yellow. I've googled red tinted camphor burl, it looks great.
I'm into deeply figured tops. It's funny how people like BurningSkies wants to cover nice woodgrain with paint while I would not buy a topless bass. I don't even want a pic guard.

My SJ in person always seems to change in photos but not nearly as dramatically in person.

You should really change the LEDs in the dog's eyes to a softer colour. That kind of thing is blinding on a dark stage.
