Question for all you Z3 owners. According to the Dingwall 3X Rotary Pickup Selector (Front View) schematic there's no setting for all three pickups in the on position. Is this the same for all Z3s?
The one I got here on TB was that way. My feeling was, if it's called a Z3 (emphasis on the 3) that should be available so I had a D-Bird Rotary Pickup Selector installed and couldn't be happier. All three pickups on and it just ROARS!!

I found it out in Australia, the original owner had moved back to primarily 4-string just as I was moving the other direction and was interested in exploring a Z. The board is ziricote and it actually has a video pedigree in this video Dingwall made a few years ago.

Yes. I believe the D bird is the first model to introduce the all 3 switch.

The Z3 was originally put out as a way of getting pickup arrangements from both the Z1 and the Z2. I'm pretty happy that it'll have a different palette from my NG2 (when my upgrade kit finally arrives and it goes full NG3 DBird).

1.Combustion’s I believe are ash and NGs are alder. The latest combustion I picked up had some more weight to it then the alder bodied NG.

2. NGs have a more aggressive presence in the mix due to the darkglass pre.

3. The EMG pre in the combustion is great. It’s very clean and articulate. They are a beautiful sounding bass but I did find on its own in a live metal setting it did not have the cut as the NG does.
Independently I prefer the combustion. In a band the NG.

4. I like the wood grains of the combustion vs the paints of the NG.

5. If you want a pao ferro fretboard vs maple that I believe is still a combustion option.

6. I’m purely guessing on this one depending on what you read but I think the combustion comes with the standard switch where as the NG3 now comes with the d bird switch. Don’t quote be on that.

I think that pretty much sums up the differences.

I *think* that the Combustions also come pre-routed for a 3rd pickup in case you end up getting the combustion but would like to add that in the future
