I sent off an email to Dingwall asking about this; I saw one video review of the 2018 NG3 that showed the pickup switch is of the d bird variety. I watched a review by the same person with comparison videos of the combustion and the ng2, and I would LOVE if I could get the option to select Bridge/Neck. I mean, i'm sure they both sound great, but i'm always looking for versatility.

@AB Nate has covered the differences pretty thoroughly.
Having owned both, a 3x Combustion is the one that stuck with me as I prefer tone with the band. I do have a DG pedal on my board anyway so the tone capsule was kind of redundant. You can always get the Combustion and add a Darkglass pedal to your chain if you want that sound (I believe this will also save you a few $).

Amusingly, my primary amp is a Darkglass Microtubes 900. This will require some thought. Thanks everybody!

Pretty sure the 3x kit doesn't fit 2015s. I don't think the 2015s have the route, so you'll have to do it the more difficult way.

I know I will have to route it out. There was a statement a while back about the newer combustions only needing to add a pickup, change the pickguard and rewire it, but that the older combustions would have to buy a kit with all three pickups so they would match. I don't have stock Combustion pickups, but the FD 34L pickups. I had purchased a P-tone pickup and have a D-Bird rotary. I don't think what I have will work well for a "roll my own" because of polarity issues.

It switches the internal wiring of the pickup between parallel and series (they are humbucking) so the tone does change and the series setting is considerably hotter. I think the series increases the mids as well. The parallel setting might be a bit scooped in the mids.

I have a few DG pedals on my board too, so this is why I'm leaning towards (and have on order) a Combustion 3X for myself.

I just picked this ABZ up on Saturday. My first 5 string and my first Dingwall! Man, it's awesome. It was the "ugliest" out of the bunch they had, but man, I LOOOVVVVVEEEEE this thing!!!! It's transparent white.
