Dingwall Owners Club

I believe you are correct, but I have other basses which allow switching between single-coil, two coils in series, and two coils in parallel, and I guess I was trying to word my comments so as to apply to these basses as well.

Ah, I thought you were referring to Dingwall SP pu's specifically.

Carry on.:bassist:

I just noticed this from several days ago and thought I'd weigh in.

Let's say we have a Z2 that allows for series/parallel switching for the coils of each pickup and series/parallel switching between pickups. Now, what kind of a sonic difference would exist between the following two modes?

1)Pickup A (coils in series) + Pickup B (coils in series) in parallel

2)Pickup A (coils in parallel) + Pickup B (coils in parallel) in series

Pretty much the same.

On my two Dingwalls that have this switching option (a Z1 with FD3-4Ls and a Z2 with Superfatties), I also notice that the tone is very similar if not the same. However, in active mode, having the pickups internally connected in series (connected to each other in parallel), there is more hiss than having each pickup connected internally in parallel (and together in series). In passive mode I hear no difference.

Out of curiosity, how do you keep the action on your basses?

I have mine as it came from the store where I bought it(medium-low I would say), but today I played my teacher's lakland and it had lower action and felt pretty good, so I think I'll lower mine a bit.

PS: Nice soundclips Bocete!

I flatten out the neck slightly but don't change the bridge height. Once or twice a year as the seasons change I do some very slight readjustment.

I'm seriously looking into buying a Z3, but the string spacing looks a bit norrow than what I'm used to.

Call or email Sheldon. If you're serious about buying, there's no reason not to. He's also good about answering.

Also, if you haven't done the fanned thing, the string spacing may look different than it actually is.

I'm seriously looking into buying a Z3, but the string spacing looks a bit narrow than what I'm used to.

If the 1-7/8" is the nut width we're only narrower by .08". If that measurement is the string to string width we're narrower by well over 1/4". Unfortunately our neck dimensions are controlled by hard tooling so can't be changed on a custom basis.

Can someone please tell me the string spacing at the nut of the Z3? I play Sadowkys and MTDs where the spacing is 1 7/8.

We measured the review Z3 from Invalid Link Removed at .333" (8.5mm) on center at the nut, and .702" (17.8mm) on center at the bridge.
