Dingwall Owners Club

Already a club member, but I 'upgraded' my membership with this Z3 recently purchased from Michael B! (Great guy to work with.)

Pros: Very easy on the eyes. Super light weight. Low action. Lots, LOTS of sound possibilities. Love the 'skinny' frets (banjo/mando?)

Cons: Had to tweak the intonation (easy). Back of the neck is 'grainy' - talked to Sheldon (cool) and I'm going to use some Behlen Master Gel to fill in the grain (sanding with 600 paper between coats.) I'm used to the natural/wax neck on my AB-II that I got super smooth (see classifieds).

Sloooooly working my way up the Dingwall food chain!

That there is a beautiful thing. I love maple necks. I'll need to try a Z3 one day.

Played the Maple Z3 through a full setup this morning.

I practice with a 1x12 (EA) and it was sounding a little 'sterile' (compared to the AB-II). However, give this thing a large room and a little power - WOW. Clear, deep, pure... Big grin on sound guy! (and me!)

Starting the 'neck' experiment today. gel on, sand off, gel on, sand off, repeat until smooth!

Hey guys, beginning bass player here. I went through two CV series Squiers attempting to do the beginner thing but that didn't last long and I picked up a EBMM Stingray 5 HS that I have really been liking. Since picking up the Ray I stumbled across the Combustion. I haven't had one in my hands but after listening to a few online and reading reviews, I really, really want to try one. The problem I'm having is finding a used one for sale. I've only found a couple used and they are both black which is the only color I don't really want. There is a thread on here for a white one but it hasn't been updated in a few weeks and I haven't heard back from the OP. I've looked everywhere I know to look and I can't seem to find any others on the used market. Are there any places besides TB, ebay, craigslist, and Bass Central that you could recommend for a used Combustion? They are priced well enough even new that I might just have to break down and get a new one but I would love to find a used one in white, green or red to save a few bucks. I'm assuming these things are either relatively rare or people that buy them like them so much they just don't sell them. Any advice would be appreciated! Best case would be someone willing to "trade up" to a cherry burst Stingray 5 HS. :D

They do come up for sale every once in a while,(keep on checking TB) as people usually get them, and then they want to upgrade to the Canadian ones. (although alot upgrade and keep the combustion).
But usually, once you go Dingwall, your there forever:bassist:

I appreciate the tip. Since I am a noob I am still trying to find "my bass" and "my tone" so a Dingwall may very well fit those descriptions after I get my hands on one. As far as design and looks go, I think Dingwall tops the list for me.

I wouldn't be worried too much about buying new either. The Combustions seem to hold their value really well. A used one will probably run you 1000-1100, where a new one is "only" about $1250.00.

I agree, there isn't much of a gap between used and new. Although it does appear that they are dropping below $1000 so that is potentially $200-300 I could save which I could put toward a couple other things I need. If I can't locate the right used one though, I'll just pick up a new one.
