I think perhaps John or someone else brought up the point of habing the small lines so close together with the bit of wood in between might be dangerous during construction as it may want to break which then led me to the triangle shaped luminlay instead(assuming that’s a thing)

Either way. Dingwall is not able to do this for me so as @Selta mentioned perhaps getting someone else after the fact may be my best option.

Well, I am obviously useless!!:roflmao::woot::laugh:
I need to pay more attention.

I didn’t know there was such a concern with the lines being too close together. I’ve seen it on other bases so I assumed it was a doable thang. I can see why Sheldon can’t do it. I guess you would probably need a custom shop for that kind of work. So modifying it after market is the only choice.

I kind of assume they CAN do it but just don’t have the time right now. It’s my understanding that ebony is hard to work with and perhaps doing a new design the entire fretboard, especially with the small line design, is a bit too time consuming for them at the moment.

I’m sure they can do anything..... I mean this IS Dingwall we are talk about.

By converting the smaller “stacked” lines to the triangle I just assume that would reduce the work load as it would be less small components to deal with..... either way..... not in the cards I’m told. Honestly, sure I’m dissapointed that I can’t make a request like this on a $10000 bass but at the same time I can respect the decision

Oh yes, I should have said "I can see why Sheldon can't do it without interrupting the production lines, which are already seriously backed up, which he is no doubt loathe to do. That's what I meant by having a custom shop. You would have to have a dedicated group of personnel who man the custom shop and pricing would have to be such that it supported itself. With as much of a backlog as he has now, it's all hands on deck to crank out the orders on the books. I agree, there is nothing that is outside of the ability of Sheldon and the shop. But Sheldon's success has been predicated on serving the production line at the highest level of quality and so any enhancements he makes to the specs are carefully considered and fully vetted before he adds them into production. It takes real discipline to do that.
