Crazy absurd talent. I could start working on a song like that at less than half speed and maybe half it playable at 80% speed by 2020.

Those partial fretless Ibanez make zero sense to me. Someone in the Luthiers Corner built an 8 string that was tuned EADG-EADG like two 4 strings side by side, with one side of the neck fretted the other fretless. That made a little more sense.

I think that is the similar idea with this one. I get it but I don’t think I’d want it. I think I could manage to make it through a song with compromise enough to not require both options. Lol. Who knows. I did try a six string version on it quite a few years ago...... I didn’t have any fretless desires at that time so I didn’t really think to deeply into it.

They vary only a bit from what I have seen. My shipping scales are probably in need of calibration, so take this with a grain of salt, but I am seeing 8.9 to 9.1 on the 5-strings. Has anyone else weighed theirs?

The ones I've played are around 9 lbs maybe a little over

My digital scale read 8.9 on my NG3.

Well, these NG3s are a “sweet spot” bass then; I have weighed about 20 of them and they all had the small variation I listed above, which would average 9 lbs.

My SJ5 is 9.2 lbs and my ABII is 8.9 lbs. They both balance, feel and sound superb!

I weighed my Combustion and it was right at 9lbs.

AB Nate is right - wood is default (ash), fingerboard is pao ferro, trans black body (so I get the quilted maple top as a result). I'm getting mine through George at Bass Gear Direct, last time I heard expected delivery was November/December but that may have changed. Guessing I'll hear from him once he receives a shipping notification from the factory.

George is a good man! I bought my Whalepoolburst ABI through him and he was awesome to deal with.

Yup. We had lots of fun with customs. The bass took 2-3 days to get to the states, and spent the next 9 days in customs until we finally liberated it. He was awesome.

I mostly agree, but will say that the tones of my SP4 suffer in no way from its measly 7lb, 3.9oz mass.

The weigh in:

Four-string NG-2 - 8lbs, 8.9oz

Five-string chambered ash SJ - 8lbs, 10.1oz

Four-string solid alder SJ/P - 8lbs, 10.7oz

You are gonna freak when you play that Z! The Dingwall Z is the single best bass I have ever played in my life.

Joining the club. This is my first new bass in years and beat out Spector, Warwick and a Zon Sonus Special. I’ve owned and played all of these before so I kind of knew what I’d be getting but went with the NG3 after a ton of positive reviews and loving the tone on the videos I’ve watched.

So far I really like this bass. The B is absolutely incredible. I love the voicing of the EQ and the feel of the bass. The Darkglass EQ is mid centric as opposed to your typica B/M/T joint. The 3 pickups may be a pic excessive as there are maybe 2 settings I love and the rest are just kind of variations on that goodness. The fanned frets are a non issue. I’m loving this bass so far and , more importantly, my wife approves! I’ll post more thoughts in a couple days.
