Is the NG your preferred bass now?

Yes. Both for live and for recording. Everyone in the band prefers it over any of the others. Playability wise, I'm just as comfortable on it as I am on the Rastaburst. But then, I've played it now for every show since it showed up in January...minus a few special sets where I brought the Rastaburst out.

This particular show was a bit difficult for me. While I'm using IEMs, my rig was providing FOH bass. We showed up and found the subs and PA were underpowered for the space, so we pulled me out. So basically I removed all of me from my mix and only heard the ambient bass, which lacked most of the mids and highs since I was hearing it through the isolation of foam earbuds.

It's tough, because without foam, I'm standing in front of an amp that's at PA levels in a 200 cap room, so the foam helps knock down the level a bit. Luckily I don't do this that much, and often I can do it in place where I can stand a good distance from my cabs and it balance out a bit.

I hear you. I’m sure it sounded great out front regardless of your dilemma. Sometimes you just gotta gut out a win.

Felt like me today. My head is stuffed like crazy and everything sounds overly boomy. I finally had to stop fiddling and just play.

Yeah, they were at their limit though, but that's not a surprise given that the bass level was set for 'legit reggae show bass presence' rather than polite rock mix or some other metric.

So the saskatoon L&M has 4 Dingwalls in stock right now. A mopar purple ng2 4 string, a natural ash combustion 5, a white alder combustion 5 (on sale!), and white lefty 5. Can't remember if it was ng or combustion .

Back in the distant past of my band's history (about 7 years ago, now)...we played at a place where the bar manager always came up with lame excuses to 'dock' us some of our guarantee. It was a already a place we hated to play, but at that time we needed some $$ just to make band rent and all that. One night's excuse was 'The bass knocked a bottle of Jameson on the floor.

...soon after that we decided for our own emotional health we weren't going to play places like that anymore. It was a wise decision.

Rather than take a gig that would go nowhere, we decided to focus on playing only 'scene rooms' or places that would advance us in the way we wanted. We also won't work with people that we find to be morally incompatible with our business or philosophy.

Every time we've sucked it up to play for someone that we couldn't trust or that we felt treated bands or fans poorly, we've walked away thinking 'we won't do that again'. So, while there are different levels of that, we generally won't put up with it. We've done our best to stake our claim at being pretty conscious in the areas that matter to us. Like, we could get our merch cheaper, but we would rather use local/women owned/run businesses, etc.

There was talk of it at the beginning of the year along with the other NAMM treats. I'm guessing they're just starting to hit the dealers.
