Note, if you've got a maple neck or fingerboard that you've worn through the finish on...Tru-Oil is your best bet to re-seal. I reached out to Sheldon a while back and discussed as I've worn through the poly on the Rastaburst in the 2-7 fret range (on the back of the neck)...and now have done similarly to the NG3 on both the face of the fretboard as well as a good portion of the treble side of the neck.

Curious for myself, as the finish on my old P bass's maple neck has been starting to lift/wear through. I don't mind, it's just mojo and makes it more unique, but I'd like to make sure I'm looking after it.

It's not clear if the Wenge necks are sealed or not (I have a feeling they might well be), I've personally found that mine doesn't need anything doing to it at all in the way of maintenance over the last 4-5 years. Other than a wipe down every once in a while.
Mine still looks identical to the day it arrived.

All my Dingwall necks past have been maple with wenge boards.

The shoe polish cleans and polishes in two quick applications. I use a leather clothe for buffing it up. The lemon oil is just whatever was at the hardware store.

The current Super P 4 has a Birdseye maple board. My first maple board ever. And it’s so pretty. I think it may sound a bit brighter unplugged, but I’ve been using new strings and have nothing to compare it with. Plugged in, it sounds great, but I don’t go, “woo, maple brightness!”

I don’t oil this board, it seems to have a finish.

Man does it sound cool with the Darkglass AOU!

Maple boards sure can be pretty. I've never had a BEM board, but the figuring in the grain of the FB of my SP4 reminds me of puffed wheat cereal. Cool and attractive in my book.

Yes, like Lee I have owned several basses with ebony boards (still do). My first two I did nothing to condition them and I never saw an issue. Both were on graphite necks (Steinberger and Modulus), the second of which I owned for almost 20 years. That said, as soon as I got an ebony board on a maple neck I was told that I was lucky because the graphite neck was not affected by the climate and season so that helped to stabilize the wood, but on a maple neck that was no longer the case. Not only did I need to moisturize, the ebony needed it more than any other wood. So, since I live in the desert southwest, I took this to heart and condition my ebony boards every time I change strings (every 1 -2 months).

With my next string change I will see if the Macassar Ebony takes the oil. I suspect it will.

Also waiting for my NG3 6. In the meantime I'm using my Ken Smith Black Tiger 6. Had it up for sale but changed my mind for now. Who did you order your NG3 6 from?

Hey Champ, I'm waiting on a black one, from The Bass Centre in Melbourne. Dingwall told me it was gonna be a year at least . But when I asked the Bass centre, they had a major order of Ng2/3s coming in January. So one of the black ones will be mine.
I don't know why you'd want to sell that Ken Smith? One of my teachers had a Smith 6 like yours, he got from the US. - It was the bass that convinced me to get a 6-string. Probably the most expensive bass I've ever played!

Probably a good Idea, from all the posts i've seen on TB, it seems like it's safer not to sell any of your stuff - you'll just end up buying it back or getting another one again anyway .
I could sit around all day just looking at a bass like that! Why did you want to sell it, may I ask?

Haven't got mine yet either, sorry. Waiting for it to turn up with George at Bass Gear Direct. ETA last time we spoke was November/December so not long now

And YES they look so freaking good in black, hey. I dig the white as well.

I had to go with the Ducati white, but my second choice was definitely the black metallic. Both are badass.
