I hope so. Jason was totally up to date on Dingwalls and all the strings that might work on the longscales. He helped me put together a set of TI flats for my AB 5 and 6 strings. He also carried Dingwall strings.

I just talked to Jason, he's taking it slow, but it sounds like he's staying in the game!!

I spent quite a long time playing it in the store. Even went 15 minutes past closing time, in fact.
It was very hard to walk away from, as it was probably the best playing and sounding bass I had encountered in my life up until that point. (It was just over a year ago, on the same day I met Sheldon.) But the store owner wouldn't budge from the $4,500 asking price, and so the bass still hangs on the wall...

Given the spec (likely w/3 band Glock) and exotic top, etc., it is interesting to compare them to some of the current AB1 3x that are simpler (no top, etc.) which can get up there too. Meanwhile, some used non-rounded shell AB2s seem to sell well, others not. I still think that the lower end 3x models have impacted sales of "higher end" 2x.

Honestly...I kinda miss it too. Had a great neck and super light...easy to play....GHS Pressurewounds and the thing would thump your arm off. Maybe @dmac1961 can chime in on his thoughts on it. Who knows...we all seem to have the same DAS/GAS sickness...maybe he could be enticed to sell(?)

The Dbirds are in production right now. There was a several month delay caused by a last minute tweak to improve quality. The first ones are due to ship in January.

Sounds like mine should arrive in time for our tour out west in the spring. No Saskatoon shows sadly otherwise a visit to Dingwall would be in order.

Almost certainly a waterslide. I can't imagine him having the time to do everything he does and sign every headstock. But I may be wrong and that'd be awesome!

I could swear I’ve seen a Facebook post where SD mentioned that signing the headstock was a nerve wracking moment.

You are correct. There's actually a handful of years where the Afterburner 2 not only didn't have the 'f-hole' but also was a solid body. There are some 'wood changes' over the years but commonly they were very originally mahogany bodied with bubinga necks & tops, later became walnut bodies w/ bubinga tops. The change over didn't happen until the mid-2000's meaning there's plenty of solid body AB2's in the world.

There’s really some magic in the mid 2000’s Dingwall Afterburners. You also have the ability to mod to different pu’s . I have a walnut body/bubinga top/Jatoba neck ‘05 Afterburner II FS in the TB classifieds for those interested.

Maybe. Hopefully. The texture doesn’t “look” written on. A paint pen may dry in this fashion but blow the picture up and you should be able to see what I’m talking about vs the black marker.
