Sheldon's just really good with a paint pen after all these years. ;)

Here's mine fresh from signing. I believe that any of the basses built in shop are hand signed by Sheldon right after he licks the length of the back of the neck to make sure it passes the taste test.

Yup. Again a big difference. Your is obviously a pen.

Mine is gotta be a decal or something. There is no brush strokes. Where the lines intercept the corners are rounded as well.

Baring in mind mine is the newest of the bunch posted(yes I am assuming on this but it is the 2018 NAMM bass) and it could be a sign of the times changing.

Haha, glad it was passed on before I got to it! No chance it's going on the block, between it and my D Bird, they're the only of my basses getting played these days. I did have a Nordstrand wound for it in Dingwall supplied shells, it sounds really good! As far as the finish, I thought it was indigo burst, but maybe I made that up.

The recent post by @MDBass having gobs of fun playing a single note on the D-Bird with his new X7 inspired me to see if I could replicate that same tone with my D-Bird with the AOU instead of the X7. I was able to get something very close, but then I thought I would try the same settings with a bunch of different basses in order to find out how much of the awesome tone was from the pedals and how much was due to the bass itself. To my great surprise, the bass made a MUCH bigger difference in the tone than I had expected. I tried a whole bunch of them, and in the first round of testing, a Roger 6-string with Bartolini Jazz pickups and a headless LeFay Pangton were the two best sounding basses, aside from the D-Bird. Some others were pretty good, and lots of them were just not cutting it at all.
But then I decided to take my most expensive bass out of its case and give it a try to see how it did.
This was my first time touching the bass other than for taking photos since I first got it almost a year ago.
Several different four word phrases come to mind, such as:

I am blown away.
My ears are bleeding.
This thing is brutal.

The recording is with a cellphone, so the quality is obviously not great. But you can get the idea if you use headphones:


I should really let this incredible instrument go to someone who will share its musical offerings with the world. It is a shame to have it just sit in the case. And by the way, it does sound totally killer clean as well, both active and passive.

From last night's Halloween Gala/video release party. We did Universal Monsters this year...and though every year I swear it off, I played in a full-head mask again...Always the most challenging gigs of the year.

How could you not love doing that? It looks wicked cool! Maybe not so good for an outdoor gig in August, but for Halloween it seems like it would be a lot of fun!

And I'm sure there's an interesting story behind the Canada sticker on the toaster... :-)

So this arrived today from Bass Central. I'ts already on its way to Mo's shop for the 6-position selection switch and series/parallel toggles mod. Has anyone put a Dunlop strap-lock insert on the back of their NG/Combustion? I really liked having that option on my Z3, since I'm not a particularly long-armed guy.

It's definitely fun, but it's also a brutally difficult gig. The visibility is very very poor. I can usually see a 4-fret range and you can't turn your head, so you have to spend the night moving the bass if you need to see the fretboard. Very tight tunnel vision all night long! Also, this mask only very small nose and ear holes, so difficult to see/hear. Also about 200 degrees in it! It'll be worth it for the pics though and the audience REALLY loves it.
