I'm curious how the frets look. What condition are they in? Just surface scratches, or any actual visible wear?

A little bit of wear, but nothing to worry about, at least to me. It looks like they were recently buffed and cleaned up too.

Thanks! This bass is extremely close to what I would have spec'd out anyway. 4 string with Xtender, Wenge neck, 3X pickups, etc, so I'm very happy to not have to wait 2 years.

I'm sorry, I was not paying close enough attention to notice that you said you did not have series parallel switches. And when you said ptone in series, I assumed that meant ptone coils in series with each other. That is what you are calling ptone in series internally. I did not think you meant ptone in series with another pickup, because I figured if you meant that, you would have said that. (Also, why do that, because it defeats the purpose of the P-Tone.) Sorry for the confusion. That will teach me to not respond to talkbass emails when I am in a meeting at work. The perils of multitasking.

By the way, this thread got me to thinking. If I were to have a bass with a p-tone, I might do a 6 way switch something like this:
1. Bridge solo, single coil (J tone)
2. Bridge solo, both coils
3. Bridge+Middle series, both dual coil (MM tone)
4. Bridge+Middle parallel, both single coil
5. Middle solo, both coils
6. Neck (PTone) solo

Or maybe replace #4 with Middle solo single coil.

Sometimes I go back and read my posts and realize I’ve left key phrases out entirely even though I know I was thinking them while typing. I think stuff gets dropped from the output buffer before it gets written. Getting old sucks!

Thanks for all the feedback. I've decided to not upset the balance of the universe and keep my pickups the way they are. If I get an AB 4-string in the future, perhaps.

It's actually C/A coated. The lines are out of boxwood, which supposedly is a bit harder than maple. It plays great, he did a good job on the nut and overall conversion, but I'm not surprised since he generally works on classical instruments including full rebuilds. I haven't plugged it in yet, but have spent a few moments with it and it definitely sounds like a good fretless should.
