By the way, this thread got me to thinking. If I were to have a bass with a p-tone, I might do a 6 way switch something like this:
1. Bridge solo, single coil (J tone)
2. Bridge solo, both coils
3. Bridge+Middle series, both dual coil (MM tone)
4. Bridge+Middle parallel, both single coil
5. Middle solo, both coils
6. Neck (PTone) solo

Or maybe replace #4 with Middle solo single coil.

AFAIK all Dingwall pickups are split-style, so they can't be run as "single coil" vs "both coils". It's either both internal coils in series with each other or both internal coils in parallel with each other (which can be changed via a switch if one is installed). A rotary switch would most often affect whether separate pickups are in series or parallel with each other.

Could well be the case. My bass is a Carvin with a piezo Hipshot style B bridge, which I'd assume has decent-quality elements. But Carvin's onboard electronics definitely don't have the strongest reputation, haha... However, I've listened to quite a few other piezo basses on YouTube, and the vast majority share the issues I mentioned. The strongest piezo tones, in my opinion, were with flats, tapes and/or palm muting, which cop a bit of an "amplified upright" vibe.

I hope you're able to sort out a great-sounding solution for your Dingwall. Definitely keep us updated!

I have the Carvin piezo and pre-amp on my 2012 LB76. Sheldon and crew were actually quite impressed with the Carvin electronics. Not the tone, we were only using a small practice amp, but how smooth the controls blended and functioned. Definitely not something I would have ever appreciated (or noticed) on a bass. I actually think the piezo on my LB76 is the highlight of the electronics package. As they say, to each their own.

Very interesting. My bass is from '04. A few years later they upgraded the preamp and switched to Style A bridges with graphite elements, but the guys in my local Carvin store assured me it made little difference sonically. Maybe they were wrong...

Welcome to the killer soundscape of Dingwall, brother. :cool: There wasn't enough of your bass shown to tell if it is an NG-2 or 3. I will heartily agree that both have plenty of 'cut' on hand. The Darkglass tone capsule is simply superb.

Yeah. I’ve been pretty ok with most of the wait but now that we can see the finish line I’m definitely getting back excited. I’ve been working with every other musician I can right now. I just figured since I’m pretty much a free agent I’ll open every single door and see what happens. Of course as I’m listening to other people’s music and such that I may collaborate on I keep hearing it in fretless.......

NICE! I'm afraid I can't afford another Z3, but I am going after that sunset colored AB1. Wenge/wenge neck, Darkglass pre, and only 8.15 pounds. Should be a nice compliment to my Z3.
