I'm all for slimming down, but have you found settings in the Helix that can emulate both of these pedals? If so, that is golden! I would love to see what they are. I had been unable to imagine life without a Cali76. And I didn't even attempt to emulate the AOU because I assumed it would not be possible without splitting the highs and lows to separate signal paths.

I can't speak for the Helix, but getting a great Cali76 (which is a modified 1176, really) and an AOU, B7K, or B7KU is fairly simple to do in the Fractal Audio land. I've shared in this thread a few AX8 and Axe-Fx II presets for the darkglass stuff before, and dialing in the compressor is straight forward.

I love my Cali 76CB. I went from swearing I'd never use a compressor live to using it all the time except 2 songs.

...Trying to off load a few other things though so I can manage a Future Impact for my board.

I was the same. Then I tried a Super Symmetry and wondered how I ever could have lived without it. It's the kind of pedal you didn't know you needed, but when you have it you wonder how you ever could have played without it.

That's interesting that you should mention that. I had read similar reports, so I just bought one to try it. I don't notice that it really even does anything. Would you mind sharing your preferred settings? If it weren't for the fact that the input and output knobs do affect the volume, (and of course the lights flashing), I would have thought that it was not even working. Maybe it is just so magical that you truly can't even tell that it's inline?

Thats my take on it. It's extremely discrete in use. Here are my settings. Release and Attack make huge differences. Everything just sounds... better with the pedal.

Yeah, while I don't necessarily want to change my board setup, I'm willing to make a few sacrifices for it I think. I have the Matryoshka that I'll pull off the board and probably my second delay (GFI Clockwork), though I may sub to a smaller 2nd delay. I'll probably also reconfig so that my IEM pack goes somewhere else.

If I were in your shoes, I would have two boards, each as small as it could be to fit what needed to be on it.
One on the input side between the bass and amp for non-modulation effects, and one in the effects loop for modulation effects. That might open up lots of new sonic options that are worth the slight increase in logistical complexity.

To be honest, I don't need the Cali76. Never bonded with it like you did. I feel confident that I can get whatever I need from the Helix. I just need to work at it. The upcoming holiday long weekend will be a big help to give me some more programming time with the Helix.

Who knows? Maybe the next firmware update will bring one or both of these pedals with it.

That's where things get wonky. I don't use an amp/preamp with an effects loop. Also, the setup is arranged somewhat counter-intuitively. about 1/2 the board is in the IE Divaricator loop, then some things ride in front and some after. And not always where you'd expect. Like the Polytope (chorus) is last in line, so it's after the two delays, which are the last in the Divaricator loop.

I have "kinda liked" Dingwalls for a while, but after reading the replies here and all the cool stuff you guys do with your Dingwalls, I actually got really GASy about one!

The future impact is really great, I’ve slimmed my board down a little but the FI won’t be going anywhere soon unless the line 6 can do a decent impression.

Thanks! The real key is that Divaricator. Beyond helping the 'effect sounds' sound really good out front, it basically acts as a one-switch looper. So while this looks complex, half of what you see is 'in the loop' of the Divaricator. So for a given song, before we start, I pick out the effects that are layered to make a specific tone...then in the song, can click the Divaricator and activate all those at once. There are only a few pedals outside that loop that I worry about live. The 'Slow Engine' is a slow gear clone. It's right next to the Divaricator so I can hit both switches at the same time. The Cali is on for most and I turn it off for a couple. The Joshwah is being used for a song now, but it goes for the entire song, so no dancing to get things on and off!

I abso-frickin'-lutely LOVE your setup! That's just a great, well thought out board with some super high quality stuff on it! Well done! I love my Future Impact! It's not on my board, but I'm going to do my best to never get rid of it...
