Lol. I understand. I didn’t intend the sale but I think it should all work out for the best. The fellow who has it, needed it more then me.
Some people are J players. I tried to be one and so I had Dingwall make the best one I could think of at the time. It turns out I’m still not a J player. Sure I can do it and LOVE playing this bass but more at home on a Long scale. And no with a fretless long scale on the way I’m just going to conform to the one scale and spacing for familiarity.
I don't consider myself a J player either, that's why it is a PJ! I have always gravitated more towards a P sound. I have to admit, I prefer the 18mm string spacing and whatever nut spacing is on the long scale basses (as well as that B-string), but prefer the punch of the treble strings on the Super Series basses as well as no stretch in the left hand (not between the frets, but the reach of the neck). I could use either and be just fine though. Since I have been playing the SJ5 more, I am more used to it and it feels like home now.

Just a heads up that the super basses tend to sit a touch above the ab1/2 in value so probably a stretch above an abz. H
The bass arrived perfectly set up it plays like butter. Probably one of the best playing basses I own. It’s light too. Happily, there was zero adjustment to play the fanned fingerboard immediately. I didn’t even notice the difference, and have been switching back and forth all weekend without any issues. Whew.
I’ve been playing active Spectors and Warwick’s the past decade and am trying to get used to the passive sound once again which is taking some time with a single tone knob to shape my sound.
But overall I’m really liking the feel and craftsmanship of this bass I suppose there could always be an active Canadian Dingwall in my future... Are we still giving our club numbers?

If you throw a Darkglass or glovkenklang in there it really opens up a lot of options.
Or opt for an instrument with one already installed.
Either way, super awesome bass
And the various Darkglass pedals work very nicely with a passive dingwall.
If you want a newer 3X Super J 5 expect to add somewhere in the region of $500-1000 on top of your trade, if you're looking for an older less fancy Super J5 you're around par give or take a couple hundred $.
If you're looking at something with an X top then yeah it'll be getting on for double the value of your afterburner.
All depends on the options
Probably not that much. Super fancy supers with mad topwoods, double a plain abz but there’s a range and a plain super p maybe less than a super tricked out z with a fancy top, but they are rarer than fancy topped ab1/ab2
And yes. I’ve been watching prices very closely just recently to figure out if a couple of deals made sense.

The older super fatty super Js seem to not decline as much possibly because you can’t just buy a new one but there are also too few to tell.

You could find a basic model Im sure of an older generation and still have money Left over...
I don't remember the specs on your ABZ but they are a little higher with the electronics. 3X,3X switches and a pre(Darkglass?) your bordering a $1000 CAD upgrade from a basic ABZ. Id speculate your bass is worth $4200CAD new (maybe more/less. thats just my uneducated guess).
You can find some nice SJs in that range for sure but as mentioned, if you want to throw on an X top and stuff your Pushing up there. For example Mine has a "Pry it out of my cold dead hands" # of $6000 CAD before my hands get that cold .....or dead....

and you can knock $3000 down from that price still giving you a solid SJ

There seems to a bigger population of abzs than super Js coming up which depresses the abz prices a bit compared to the supers. That said, both retain value pretty well thanks in part to popularity and rarity and in part to the 18 months delay on a new replacement.

If we are talking basic models that are both 5~ years old, a 5-string ABZ will get you around $1600~ while a Super J would be closer to $2100~. Those prices go up for newer basses but the margins are about the same. It sure would be nice if the classifieds mandated sale prices but I am pretty sure I am in a small minority of sellers who post the sold price.
