Regarding the Super PJs, I almost always used them in precision only mode. I found series to be too big. Every once in a while I'd run both pups in parallel to get a scoopy sound. It was worth it just for the extra tonal option, but I've owned several Super Ps as well and never felt like there was a job I couldn't get done without the bridge pup. Only Dingwall I have right now is an ABZ5, which I'm of course in love with. Would love to have that red super pj back but I think @whirledpeas is going to have to will it to me, cause he won't part with it alive. I don't blame him!

Glad to hear you are enjoying a 5 string DW again my friend! I’ve churned through quite a few instruments in my GAS-fueled time here on TB, and I connected with that red SPJ5 like no other bass.

All of the DWs that I have tried have been stellar, but the red one has got something special. Can’t put my finger on it, but I think the maple neck/board has something to do with it. I also solo the neck pickup almost exclusively. The bridge pickup is nice to have but I rarely find myself using it.

I usually don't go into "OMG mode" (series) on my SJ/P4. It is killer though. I accidentally used it when the band I was playing with opened a blues festival a few years ago. Audience response was positive. :D

I had a major shift in the last 12 months and it’s been a really cool adventure taking the Dingwalls into “new to me” genres.

I know it’s an easy song but I can see you rocking “Green eyed lady”.

Love that song.

It's preferance. Wenge has, in my opinion, a more dynamic tone. It's earthier, darker, richer... it is also a lot nicer looking and the open grain has a unique feel to it... hard to describe.
Wenge also weighs more. A long scale, 6 string neck is very noticeable. It's not a brick, but there is a difference that anyone would notice.
I love wenge. I prefer wenge any day. However I do love maple too, and I miss having a maple maple neck bass.
I guess, have both of you can.

My SJ has a maple/maple neck, but everyone raves about the feel of Wenge. It looks very cool as well, so I guess i'm going with that :D

I think maple really gets the cold shoulder due to appearance. I love the maple neck I have. Lol. That’s said.
3 custom builds and 3 Wenge necks spec’d By me.
Guilty.

Nothing wrong with maple. I did contemplate a maple neck on both my latest builds.
What got me though on the last one is the sounds of the Zebra bass with the FDVs and DGTC with the Wenge. Since I had to sort with it I wanted to replace it with a very similar bass

I actually really like how maple looks. Specially when combined with a natural finish ash body :D

Me too, I just finished learning it last week, interesting patterns to say the least

I'm kind of leaning towards the 1 maple, 1 wenge camp myself.

I am pretty much Wenge for life after buying my Dingwall, huge fan! Question though - are their any audio comparisons of FD3 vs. FDV? I am considering buying 2 FDVs for the middle/bridge position on my 3X to test out, but just want something recorded on the same bass-ish on the same setup to really draw some conclusions. I don't have any real opportunities to actually play with them live.

I've got a re-make in mind, along the lines of the video below.

And I know this is off topic, and I have to say I am not a metal person, but speaking of re-makes, this video is, IMO, well done and shows GREAT contrast.

Ha. Not the first time I’ve seen this.

I actually want to do a heavier influenced version of green eyed lady. As well as a jazzier version. Love the song.
