Well, we all have some common things we like and then we have the things we individually like. When buying spec Canadian Dingwalls, I have to attempt to predict both the commonality and the appeal. So I agonize for weeks going back and forth on options, colors, body, top...and then I just give up and ask my wife...haha haha

I was going to say the same thing (I'd help you with some custom specs), but then I'd either need to or really want to buy them when they showed up.

I've helped I think 8 people pick out their basses. I am always honoured when asked and enjoy the process.
... I think I have pretty good taste in basses. :)

... also, I've sold quite a few bass and find whether it's a 4, 5 or 6 never matters. The market is huge, world wide and some locations appeal much higher to specific specifications then others. If you've got good taste, it'll sell...
The only hard part I might find is if I sold a Dingwall fretless that I had made... I'm not going to, but that might be tough... which is great, more for me.

Looks fantastic.
Feels really nice in the hand.
Great tone. My SPJ (passive, Wenge) has more bark and bite than my Z3 (active, Maple with a Wenge F/B) to my ear. There may be other factors in play here but my gut tells me that the neck is a contributing factor.

Probably slightly heavier though.

What body wood does your SPJ have?
I'm almost convinced that i'll end up ordering a SPJ instead of a SJ

I agree with the above. I like to think wenge has a more naturally compressed midrange compared to maple necks. The feeling of a wenge neck is so good. Semi-open pores makes for very "fast" feeling necks.

Also, it's fun to pronounce. :D

Aside from the unique tonal contribution, maintenance is also a factor.

Especially if you’re heavy handed, or a sweaty beast.

I don’t wear rings, have dry skin and a very light touch.

As a result, my maple neck and fingerboard look mint after 5 1/2 years of heavy use.

Some players could be looking at clogged pores and a major cleanup by now (Wenge), or even a refin (Maple)...

Also, while Wenge is very stout, it can be a splintery, chippy material to work with. I would rather do a refer oin maple than Wenge.

Regarding the Super PJs, I almost always used them in precision only mode. I found series to be too big. Every once in a while I'd run both pups in parallel to get a scoopy sound. It was worth it just for the extra tonal option, but I've owned several Super Ps as well and never felt like there was a job I couldn't get done without the bridge pup. Only Dingwall I have right now is an ABZ5, which I'm of course in love with. Would love to have that red super pj back but I think @whirledpeas is going to have to will it to me, cause he won't part with it alive. I don't blame him!

Thanks for the feedback! Did you have an FDV in the bridge position or was that before those pickups were released?
