I use a mix of Thomastik and Dingwall on the 6 and Thomastik on the 4. I haven't found a flatwound B I ever liked. Years ago I left a round B on with a set of flats. I have loved it and every bass I've ever owned since, 5's always have the 1 round and 4 flats and 6's have 2 rounds and 4 flats.
The wear is minimal. Ebony is really hard and deals with it easy.

The new Z3 6 fretless is going to be a Reverseburst. I've planned for this one for about 3 years. The neck will be wenge and ebony again but I'm not too sure what I want exactly for the body. I'm thinking maybe soft maple or northern ash for the body, then the contrast pieces and the top... and maybe back.

I find that my SJ5 with P-pickup and Super Fatty in the bridge (70's position) sounds great. To me, it sounds better than my SP5 with the FDV in the bridge (60's position). I don't know if that is due to the pickup placement (neck pickup on SJ is closer to the neck as well) or just the difference between the actual two instruments that I have. It is important to note that my SJ5 is not one of the thin bodied ones that are the current production standard; it is a full-sized chambered body. Whereas my SP5 has the thin body.

Thanks for the info on this. My fingers are crossed that mine will show up next week. Jeff said neck was getting assembled this week. Weather wise Tuesday is looking best day to ship!!! Lol. Not sure how much that plays into reality when they decide to ship out

I have a set of Payson flats on stand by for when it arrives. I’m looking forward to trying the combination

I ask for my shipments to be on Monday or Tuesday if possible.
I think they said when they shipped me a bass this week that it was an extreme negative temp number. And then I was waiting on delivery and snow hit...so I wrote this about it:
Dang...I was excited due to a special shipment from Dingwall to be delivered today...Dang snow; Fedex won’t deliver, operations suspended....dang snow....now I have to wait until Monday....dang snow....think I’ll go play electric guitar...ds

Ah...instead I called fedex and drove through the snow to them. I didnt want to wait until Monday...and whoa!

You made the right decision. FedWrex ruined an expensive MTD that was ordered through my favorite dealer. There were multiple delays and then he learned they’re not required to climate or temperature control their packages. The result was a warped neck, on a neck-thru instrument.

He made a humorous recreation of the events that unfolded but the details were real and an expensive instrument was ruined.

I'm not sure what's the yea of my SJ but the body does look a bit thinner than a normal J. It still has the control plate in the front and also Super Fatties.

I meant a Super P with a J. I could only find this video, but Dustin only used the P pickup here:

Like I mentioned above, I installed a P-tone on my SJ (same as yours) and the P pickup sounded reaaaaally good. Very mean, but in a good way. When running both the P and SF in parallel or series, the upper strings were a bit too mid forward for my taste, though.

I believe the Super Fatty is inherently a very mid-range focused pickup, which makes them very present in a mix, I would say

But I was just looking for some videos with the P tone installed. The pickup does sound pretty sweet

Duuud! I’m willing to drive to Saskatoon direct but that’s not an arrangement my dealer and Dingwall is cool with. I would in a heart beat!
