Ugh, I'm not sure what that means

But I was just looking for some videos with the P tone installed. The pickup does sound pretty sweet

The skunk stripes on the early SJ5's (not sure about the 4's) were the carbon reinforcements inserted in the back of the neck and filled in with walnut strips. I believe they simplified things and now do it under the fingerboard. Same result, less labour (having to fill in removed material).

I ask for my shipments to be on Monday or Tuesday if possible.
I think they said when they shipped me a bass this week that it was an extreme negative temp number. And then I was waiting on delivery and snow hit...so I wrote this about it:
Dang...I was excited due to a special shipment from Dingwall to be delivered today...Dang snow; Fedex won’t deliver, operations suspended....dang snow....now I have to wait until Monday....dang snow....think I’ll go play electric guitar...ds

Ah...instead I called fedex and drove through the snow to them. I didnt want to wait until Monday...and whoa!

We were the coldest place on Earth at one point in the last couple weeks. There has been a cold snap here that would probably shutter most American cities. We don't get much snow though.

Price check...

I am not certain this is going to happen but... The family and I are flip flopping houses. Basically preparing one for sale and moved over to the new one. Of course a little bit of Murphy’s law happened and I had to spend a bit on the new place while paying the mortgage/repairing/prepping the other house for sale. Long story short, cash is tight.

So, I am looking at my 2 Dingwalls and other stuff like pedals. I have the brand new Purple D-Bird Custom 4 and I have an AB2 6 string all walnut bass. The 6er is to challenge me as a musician and the D-Bird is for having a 4 and jamming out. I can get more for the D-Bird but I do think it is the more practical bass.

Any thoughts on price range for this AB2 6 string?

Edit, if it is relevant- this is #9 of 12, all Walnut builds. I think from 2011, pretty mint condition.

Ouch, tough choices. Both the AB-2 sixer and the Dbird are rare as hens teeth on the used market.

If it was me I’d put em both up for sale and see what happens.

No idea on prices. Last AB-1 six I sold went quickly at $2k. If I had to guess I’d say $2500-3000 on the six string. Not much below list on the Dbird, since they are extremely rare.

Good luck. This stuff comes and goes like the tides.

String guru’s, besides Kalium, are there any string companies you’re aware of that’ll let you purchase BEAD sets rather than full 5 string sets? Thanks for any scoopage.

You made the right decision. FedWrex ruined an expensive MTD that was ordered through my favorite dealer. There were multiple delays and then he learned they’re not required to climate or temperature control their packages. The result was a warped neck, on a neck-thru instrument.

He made a humorous recreation of the events that unfolded but the details were real and an expensive instrument was ruined.

I have had multiple problems with FEDEX. I use UPS exclusively, EXCEPT the international shipments from Dingwall. The good news is Fedex Ground and Fedex Express are really two different setups. The international shipping Fedex Express is much better than the ground. Serviced by an entirely different location and different vehicles etc. However, they do damage boxes at a higher rate (for us) than UPS. And they NEVER have one consistent driver to deal with.

One of the best things a person can do is locate LOCAL phone numbers for these businesses with a single contact if possible. This can cut through red tape and help tremendously. Calling the 800 number of either Fedex OR UPS is like pissing in the wind and makes me want to put my fist through the wall from sheer frustration. My local UPS driver gave me his cell number, and I can contact him and meet him or whatever I need. Worth its weight in gold.

I bought a used AB2 and specifically asked for signature. Got left at the door. Supposedly it was the guy's intern who put a big giant label on it that said "Bass Guitar $xxxx". Fortunately I caught that one as well, as that was a big giant "please steal me" if there ever was one. The guy I bought it from called up UPS and yelled at them and yelled at his intern.

There is a 6-string AB2 on E-Bay right now and it has bids on it, so track that... although I like the look of yours better.

Something tells me the D-Bird would go first. I'd be more likely to say "which one will get played more".

This is something I have to consider when ordering Dingwalls....do I order the most in-demand bass or do I order the least demand in hopes there are less of them on the market and someone is gonna want it.

Absolutely. It’s a tough choice I’m sure. When I see some of the ones that were selected locally I feel “ you guys can’t be serious”! Of all the possible Dingwall options this is what shows up! Not all obviously but some...... but then again I don’t think my taste is conducive to selling multiple lower cost items. I seem to go for the more extravagant........
