Hey guys, looking for an idea on value. I live in Canada and I have the opportunity to purchase a combustion for $900 cdn (680usd) the catch is it has a chunk of finish missing. Is this still a good deal? Just want to make sure I won’t lose my shirt when it’s time to sell it down the road.

Yes. That's a good price. It's about half or less going rate for a used combustion. Any idea which version/year?

I think it's a good buy - I would have already bought it but the seller would only do a local deal.

Do you think you'd just look to repair the bad spot or completely refinish it?

I would get it and see if you bond with it THEN decide about repair. A complete refinishing may put you in the same ballpark as a mint used Dingwall bass; the advantage is you have no limits as to your ideal inner vision of what it should be. If you like it but don't want to spend the funds on a refinishing, repair inexpensively. A thought: Many like "distressed look" and if it plays and sounds great, maybe not even worry about a repair, unless it affects integrity of bass.

I wouldn't think a paint job would cost that much, then again I've not had it done, or do you mean a complete go over of everything?

Paint will be about 250-400 usd depending on the finish. Get a dope flake finish from Marty bell and have the first sparklebustion

I think some of the first ones were actually sparkle. I remember seeing a green one for sale not that long ago in Saskatchewan

Hey all, I'm looking to restring my NG 2 in the near future, but when I checked the Dingwall site I realized that the shipping is near what the strings cost, is there a vender state side that doesn't have the high shipping charge ??????

Yeah, there was a silver/sparkle base coat. Mind you, you can really tell the quality of the finishing has gone up since that one was done. The finish had a little bit of blotching in spots although I doubt anybody would ever really care. The bass was a fantastic player with a great B string.
