I guess I can just test it out when I get home, but... I have a Warwick with an active pre-amp. It can run in passive or active mode. But, even in passive mode, it won't make a sound without a battery with some charge installed. Is the Dingwall the same?

Like I said, I'll just unplug the battery when I get home and find out, but it's funny that this never occurred to me until now.

It is road worn. The bang on the bottom is real but purely cosmetic and there is much more “experience” on the bass. The picture actually makes it look worse then it is. Nothing as bad as that.

My biggest pet peeve with it is that you can feel on the neck the bass was rested agains a cab or something many many times but it’s not significant in any way. Just a slight “texture” that could be sanded out easily enough imo.
All in all. I’ve never been into road worn but if I could land it for $750-$800 I’d definitely take it. I only say that for myself as I have absolutely ZERO need for it. For someone looking to try one I’d say it’s a great way to get your hands on it.

I’d be happy to pick it up for you or anyone else interested.......

Here’s some more info about it, seems like a positive option all things considered, but to each their own. Certainly nothing wrong with the way it’s been done for decades, but as Dingwall owners we haven’t really settled for the status quo of things!

These are the perfect Dingwalls for mods, and the price is the lowest on a used Combustion I’ve seen.

I’ve actually seen a really nice minty combusty in trans black for sale at an l and m. Same price a few years back but I was not a buyer at the time. Sure kick myself for not scooping it up.

This is true. Funny how on so many things.... especially as I get older...... I don’t wanna change nuthin. That said we here are playing the most revolutionary basses on the planet and have been receptive to that change!

But if something goes wrong. The charger or cable flakes and it doesn’t get charged, you’re done. There’s no fast recovery, just waiting for it to charge.

Now, if you consider rechargeable 9vs which some folks choose to use, yes.

I test drove my friend’s Super P at a gig last night (sounded epic and FOH didnt even need to EQ my channel), but I noticed a few things:

1. The tummy cut on his bass felt better than on my SJ.

2. It had a bit of neck dive.

Has Dingwall changed the body contour at some point? His bass is a newer model than mine

I’m not sure if the neck dive is caused by the body shape and/or because its a 5 string or because it’s Super PZ (very light swamp ash body)

Any ideas? :)

My regular Super P5 had no neck dive. Might be the lightweight ash body, like you said.
