The D-Bird is such a ridiculously cool bass that I feel like a rockstar whenever I pick it up. The body shape, strap pin location, and ergonomics are magical - I'm slinging it *way* lower than any other instrument I've ever played and it's still perfectly playable because it does such a good job of balancing at any angle. I got it set up by a local tech for BEAD and it's everything I hoped it would be

Does anyone run flats regularly on a long scale? I love the sound, but hate the way most flatwound B strings feel/play on traditional scale lengths.

I know Sheldon was playing with the 'flat' idea but I think it got back burnered in all the other projects. Payson Clarke makes a set you could try (and report back), and I think he's working on groundwounds too.
Thats a shame. Sheldon would probably make a killer set. I would...but my only Dingwall is a 6. If I felt really inclined, I could order a set, throw on the B and E and play a bit on those as a benchmark test.
They were on sale when I ordered mine on Tuesday afternoon - paid $499.99 all said and done. It's a lot, but it solves two problems - it can fit D-Birds, and it's a 2 bass case.
I'll be picking it up within the next hour or so - I'll post pictures!

That case looks fantastic, but my band would physically keeel me if I took up that much van/trailer room with a bass case!
My impression was that it wouldn't be that much bigger than two single bass cases...guess I'm about to find out! I do have a bad habit of buying things online that turn out to be MUCH bigger than I anticipated.
A lot of touring musicians have been going this route. I’ve been wanting one but one key factor is holding me back......I don’t get out much
Same for that new gator case. It looks pretty damn awesome but for 99% of my current needs the bags suffice.
Just waiting for a reason though!!!

@AB Nate hows the fretlessing coming? Last time I checked the extremities of the bass were giving you a bit of trouble if I recall correctly.

I’ve run TI jazz flats on my AB-1 six string. I liked it. I needed to order a mixed set from bassstrings online. (Now Fret Nation). I haven’t seen TI stuff on his new web site yet.
For drop in fit, I’d try the Payson flats.
