My hearing is noticeably decreased in one ear because I was bravely stubborn to rehearse and play at loud volumes without ear protection. That was 20 years ago.

I know what you mean. I went to check out a jam session once and one of drummer was hammering on his crash cymbals. I wasn't even on stage but since then I have to be careful because my right ears start to hurt out loud volumes

I probably roll off effectively by about 13khz, maybe a bit earlier. I can't blame it all on loud music. I did have hearing loss and ear problems from when I was toddler age and beyond and do have a perforated eardrum on the right side that will never heal.
But yeah, in my late high-school and early college years, I did stand right next to a few loud drummers that did hammer the cymbals.
I made a sort of compromise over the years. I've always insisted to be set up on the right of the drummer, so my hearing loss is more pronounced on my left.
Lucky having always done vocals to be in front of drummer. During practice, always use a Hearos on drum side when not at microphone.

Curious, I don't have the bass yet, but do the 2018+ Combustions with 2 pickups have a cavity for the third pickup? just a pot, some soldering a new plate and pop it in?
It's got standard pickup spacing and not the "thumb" position ones.

I believe they are routed for all pickup options, and a handy upgrade kit with third pickup, pickguard and switch is available.
As well as pickguards for the NG two pickup option.
Also, I think the preamps are available.
And, of course, I could be mistaken.
My take was that the combustion’s and NG’s were supposed to be easy to reconfigure.
My super J 5 was routed to accept both super fatties and the split P pickup. I was able to buy the pickup, when it became available, and a new pickguard.
As well as pickguards for the NG two pickup option.

They are routed for either 3 pickups or the choice between the '*1' and '*2' two pickup layouts. To move to the 3 pickup option your best bet is a kit from Dingwall, which has the correct pickup polarity for a 3 pickup situation (this is very important) as well as a 3-pickup switch and a pickguard to make it all look right.
Very cool, I love that they actually route it out, makes sense since they have no need to re-program the CNC machine, just equip to order.
I really hope I like the bass, but not too much my Bubinga B-1005 and F-415 turn into unloved children.

Yeah, straight basses tend to get turned into cash once the Dingwall thing grabs you.
P tone pickups for that P J setup. I love that Dingwall has finally made all the pickups in a universal shell. You can always rewire to series or install series/parallel switches to push the neck pickup towards the P tone sound, or bring up the volume and punch on the bridge pup.

I think I've finally narrowed down my amp search to a few different cabinets to pair with a Tecamp Puma 500. I spent some time waiting around to see if anything would come up on the local used market, and nothing did. Even the well of limitless Peavey TVX 410's seemed to has dried up completely since May. Building my own cab has also been ruled out because I do not have the tools to cut circular holes accurately, or confidently build/wire/solder a crossover.
On my short list I have the Fender Rumble 210, Avatar SB126 (though any of Avatar's offerings are a possibility), and the Mesa Traditional Powerhouse 115 (discounted ATM due to being recently discontinued).
My plan is to eventually buy two of whatever cab I end up going with, which puts the Mesa a bit down the list, as I might struggle to find a matching cab in the future. Any of you folks have experience with these cabs? Any other cabs you've had positive experiences with in the ~$500-800CAD range that I should consider?
If you want to try a fEARful, I have a 1212/6 with the true 3-way. I had the CBG but swapped it out with some help. Mine was the prototype but I think plans are online since.
You can replace just the single tuner. You could probably just tighten up the arm on the tuner to hold it in place.
Dingwall does not use a standard Hipshot tuner. They use a shorter post to allow a proper break angle without tilting the headstock. The tuners are recessed.
Hipshot does not make Xtenders with a short post. The lowest tuner is a standard Xtender but the others get short posts.
I am happy to defer to your expertise on that. I would just like to say that the info I provided was copy/pasted from an email I received from Dingwall Tech Support when I contacted them to inquire about getting a replacement tuner for a Super J, and that was the tuner part # they said I needed in order to match the rest of them. I don't know whether they have changed the tuners over the years. So if somebody wants a replacement tuner, the easiest/best thing to do might be to contact Dingwall tech support with the S/N of the bass and a photo of what you've got, and see what they say.

I know I should really delete that embarrassing, pathetic and rambling video of giddy noodling. However, it is the only memento I have of that incredible bass, so I hang on to it for sentimentality's sake. And I shouldn't even share it, but what the heck, we are all friends, right? Hopefully nobody judges me by that. Who knows how many beers I had before filming it.
