If it weren't for the opportunity, I wouldn't even really be looking. My Prima Artist still gets most of the play time, but the AB1 6 string gets it when I need a 6. I have to sit down and have a talk with myself about my other two AB1s and what their future holds. A Prima Artist, a Z3, and a 6 st. AB1... all the tools I'll ever need in Dingwalls. Have my Pedulla Pentzbuzz for fretless work, and my NS Upright for upright work. Should be totally set at this point.

I've said that with every bass I bought! I'm having a custom job being done right now, WAY over what I ever thought I would spend on a bass, but I really want it and it will be my first custom anything!
But hey, I have 7 payments, so a few hours overtime every month and I'm golden.
I bought the AB1 in 2016, took delivery in 2017 (April 8th) , and bought the PA (used) in 2018 (May 16th).
The PA is kind of funny... The Bass Shop Seattle had it, and having never seen a PA in person, let alone play one, I went up and played it. Hemmed and hawed about it... then kind of forgot about it. Someone bought it as their first 5 string, and returned it about a few months later... and I saw it pop back up on the website. Decided "yup", I gotta have it, so I went and picked it up. Well... let me clarify. My wife saw me drooling over it, so she bought it for me. Did I mention lately that I have the best wife?
Since then, I've been entirely GAS-free. Was playing my Prima, then switched back to my AB1 (3x pickups) and wondered if a Z3 was out there... and all the cards fell into place. The only thing I might change at this point, would be the pre- in my AB1 to a Darkglass, but I really doubt I will. I like their pedals, but even "flat", the DG has too much baked-in flavor... and I truly love the Glock pre.

The bridge/middle position is in series, whereas the bridge/neck is parallel. So yes, it is normal for that position to be a bit louder than the others.
On the other hand, it might work out differently.
I practically worship Lee Sklar, and originally thought that a Sklar was my ultimate objective.
Then I got to try one at a bass hang, and discovered that it felt too... ...slinky for me?
My comfort zone turns out to be an ABZ, maybe with the XXX option.
That freed up a bunch of time that I used to waste on window shopping.
Even if the Sklar had turned out to be The One, I’d rather know that up front. That way I could get busy saving for it, instead of wasting time and money on other junk in a misguided attempt to scratch a Z-shaped itch!

That's the right way to see it IMHO.
When I was young(er) I wasted so much time and money on amps, and never considered an SVT simply because of its price.
Then I finally get to play one and think man this is what I was after the whole time ..
Sure it was expensive but less than the sum of all the poopie amps I had before it.

These two are reunited once again. Just picked up the Z a few hours ago.
Bit of a back story...
A local bass player had the Z built for him. It was ordered through (the now closed) BassNW. Shortly after he received it, he ordered the Prima Artist. In a sense, these two are "brothers". I picked up the Prima, as mentioned in an earlier post. I knew he had the blue Z, and, noticed he recently talked about offloading some other gear at The Bass Shop (for all intents and purposes, the BassNW replacement). So I messaged him and said, half-joking, he should sell me the Z. Little did I know, he wasn't playing it at all, and agreed to sell it, for an extremely good price. One of those deals that you just cannot pass up without major regrets later. Knowing I had the Z's bigger brother, and wanting a fancy Z anyway, I pulled the trigger on it.
Amazing basses. There's a tonal overlap in a couple specific settings, but, then each branch off and do their own thing. And boy, as you all are well familiar with, they do those things damn well!
So, these two, and my AB1 6 string are my players. I am pretty certain the Prima will remain my #1, with the Z being very close behind. The AB will mostly be just for the 6 string tunes, and a lot of studio stuff (the 3x pickups in it bring their own unique "thing" as well). The other two 5 string ABs... well, I think they'll end up re-homed, to hopefully inspire someone else.
I'm a lucky guy. I realize I'm gloating, and am in a unique position to own such extremely high end basses. For that I am fortunate, and happy. Now, time to spend a few hours in the woodshed with these two

Played a gig last night at this historic old theater in my hometown. Funds are being raised to bring it back to it's former glory. It originally opened back in 1920. Such a great sounding room and great experience! The custodian showed us the basement area that once housed a pool hall and barber shop. If rooms could talk....
I can't help notice that you play a BT2 and sell a two10, so I guess you liked the former more than the latter ?

Both great cabs & yet completely different. The Big Twin II can handle any situation that I put it in, so for now it’s the one I’m keeping. I’m considering moving to Bergantino cabs to go with the Forte HP which is possibly the best amp I’ve ever owned. The Two10 is great cab, it’s just what I thought would be the easiest to sell to cross over to a Berg cab.

Edit: I just realized my Dingwalls are a decade apart. My ABI is a 2006. My SP is a 2016. At least, that's how I remember it.
My Super P made it to the stage for the first time this weekend. My band had a substitute drummer, a new 2nd guitar player, and a singer full of moonshine, so it was an embarrassing show, but the Dingwall was great! I have Super Brights on it right now, but the pickups are pretty bright, so I may move to a nickel string to tone it down a little.

No, just the normal SS ones. I've used the MM's on other basses, and that might be a good idea.
I run a Line 6 HX stomp and G4 ears...I could probably fix the whole thing with a cab model, but its a lot more fun to experiment with strings! Any suggestions?
