Also, dingwall strings, ss or nickels ?
The gauges look more balanced on the ss ones if I see correctly ?
I guess they're more "hifi" sounding though ?
And what about tension ?
Those that came with the bass are ok but tension could be a bit lighter I suppose ..

I would buy that thing in a hot second, it looks amazing.
I know how it goes, I've had to part with my 78 Corvette I bought for $2000 and restored myself from age 19 to 21, had to sell it to help my father out of foreclosure, sadly it only delayed the inevitable.

Anyone using a lighter than .40 G on a Super series? I’m really intrigued by the idea of going to a really light set on my SP5 (although likely keeping the B .130). I don’t exactly play lightly, but I’ve always liked the timbre of slightly downtuned basses, like a standard 105-45 down to Eb or D standard.
I’ve got GHS Boomers .030’s on my Super P. Super fun and they sound great.
D’Addario has XL’s in .035. I put them on my Cirrus, but I’ll be trying them on the Super P at some point. I’ll get a new set for the Super P, they are inexpensive strings.

"NDD" It's safe to say I'm all in now. It's been less than a year since I first touched a Dingwall bass and now I own 4. I probably need to sell one of them. Maybe my other SJ4 since this one is lighter and tricked out a bit more. I just need to decide if I want to add the P pickup on this one or not. I don't think I want to deal with having to get another pickguard custom made again. Quick comparison yesterday had me preferring this newer Super J to the old one with the P/J setup. Not sure if it is the "newer" Super fatties or the Glock pre, but there is more clarity and punch to this one. I switched the neck to series on the others older SuperJs to give more umph, but I don't think it will be necessary with this one. Sounds great as is!!
I didn't go into this thinking I would end up with 2 black basses being my main players, but I didn't plan on buying a black car either(another used purchase). I really thought hard about getting a new one built, but at the end of the day I decided that 3 pickups and paint wasn't worth paying an extra $2k for. Only other thing I would change would be to a Wenge neck, but I have that covered with my 5er & AB-1.

Figured I'd share this... It's interesting how the pickguard has changed over the years. Notice that the Super Fatties got a little Fatter than the FD-4s on my old SJ. I didn't notice initially how much lower the cutaway is compared to the older version. Cool evolution... especially when comparing to the current SuperJs.

I’m having trouble dialing in a great sound out of my Super J(Fatties). There is a harsh high-mid/high grind that I can’t seem to take away. Both basses have glock pre-amps. Any tips? Maybe string choice?

What kind of strings are you using atm?
Do you have the thin super fatties, like the ones in my avatar pic, or the SF2 which come in the standard rounded shells?

Same thing when used in passive mode? How are the batteries?
Have you set up your input gain structure too high?
Have you checked your pickup heights?
I have the thin super fatties. I have two super J’s, the other one has Black Beauties and the other one with unknown rounds(seems like nickels).
Yeah, same problem on passive mode though using the tone fusion helps a lot when using the high cut. I’ll check pickup heights later tonight, what measurements I should be looking for?
