Dingwall Owners Club

I don’t see this as a bad thing. The US has let foreign manufacturers gut the musical instrument market for decades.
I wouldn’t mind having our musical instrument factories back on US soil
If you think they're coming back to the US, I have news for you.
If you think they'll come back and bring any real meaningful jobs, I have some more of the same news for you.

I’m not familiar with the current Combustion or NG prices. If you add this 20%, does a buyer still save a considerable amount than if one ordered a custom Canadian Dingwall?
Dingwall has not as of yet raised their prices on NG/Combustion series basses. But yes, even if a dealer has to add a tariff percentage, the NG/Combustion series is still less expensive. We have several listed at Dingwall street prices on the Sho Me Music website.

Looks like it just moved. Expensive, that looks like new price. Was a Sklar II as well. I could have sworn I saw that exact bass somewhere else in recent months (but I eventually ended up picking up a Sklar I locally)

I've only seen it at the same dealer (and that dealer's EBay and Reverb pages), but it is a consignment. It was even higher before. I think they bought it new and realized it isn't for them, then tried to put it out on consignment. I'm interested in it, but not at that price.

Wouldn't only the US dealer be charged the tariff? I wouldn't think being in Canada that Dingwall would be charged any more.

I propose Sheldon move Combustion production to rural east TN and let me run the plant for him! Very high skilled rednecks around here who do great work and care about what they do!

Great idea, but the reality is that even rednecks in TN will probably want more than the well trained workers in whatever facility is making Combustions. Beyond there probably being an economy of scale (we can assume they do way more than just Dingwalls) there's got to be a fairly sizable differentiation in the cost of living at the very least.

Yes - only the US importer will be subject to the tariff, which they pass along to the end consumer. Like tariffs or not, the idea is to dissuade importers and customers to buy goods which come from the origin country subject to the tariff.

From what Sheldon was saying before, I think the cost of living in Saskatoon is a large contributor to overall price increases of Dingwalls.

Can believe. And I certainly don't begrudge people what it costs them to live in any given area.

My thoughts on price/overprice is... what's the wait for a Canadian build Dingwall these days? And how many shops have a bunch of them sitting on their walls?

Someone did post that Canadians do also pay import tariffs. I have no idea what that is, but it is not tied to the USA tariffs in any way. So yes, the direct importer into USA is the one paying these fees.

For the Canadian builds, we have one in stock and two more due in next week and one uncommitted build que coming up in a week or so.

There would also be a big cost associated with uprooting the production and moving it to the other side of the world. Cost to find the place that would do it, find and hire skilled labor, train said labor force, and then to get them off the ground and producing at the same rate. Money and time investment would be huge.

I've no idea on specific tariffs related to this specific issue, but Canadians already pay a lot for international purchases (Sales Tax, Duty, Brokerage by the delivery service, etc.)

This is for Chinese made goods entering the USA. The tariff applies to the purchaser within the USA of Chinese made goods. I have to assume new OR used. Either way... if it’s made in China, residents of the USA pay this discussed tariff. We have our own coats here no question but if Canada introduced the same tariff then we would pay that on top of our other regular fees.....

Or buy a Canadian made Dingwall instead ;)
