To break up this talk of taxes and whatnot, I have a request:

I recently recorded a sound clip of my bass with fresh nickels. I am considering getting FDV pickups for my bass, but I'd like to hear their character when recorded clean/straight to the desk. I have a 3X with S/P switches. I am considering going for a custom set of pickups, but would like to "audition" the FDV pickups as well.

I know there are clips on the Dingwall site, but they are with music. I'd like to hear them solo.

Yes, they take special strings (though I've heard some have gotten away with super long scales)

I recommend Payson reduced core nickle steels, They sound awesome and have a nice feel and haven't gone dead on me!

Congrats on the new Dingwall! Yes you will likely need special sets, which you can get from Dingwall or Payson to account for the longer scale length.

This is a 'long scale' Dingwall, meaning your lowest string will be 36.5" from bridge saddle to nut. You may wish to start with a few sets of strings that are 'designed' to be used with these basses, the obvious choices being Sheldon's stainless or nickel/steel strings or Payson's options.

From there, it's worth doing some poking around here on TB and a few other places on line to find out what other options may be out there if you aren't finding what you want to hear.

Fret Nation can help you out with strings. Tell Jason it’s a longscale Dingwall. He can set you up with sets made of individuals to fit.
I’ve used TI flats, infield super alloy super long, paysons, and Dingwall strings.

I’ve got a 4 string AB-1, a longscale Dingwall, and DR Pure Blues, E-G worked for me. The E string just made the nut. Maybe I just got lucky. So, low riders might just make it. The Pure blues sound great, I like the .040 Victor Wooten set.

I’m also looking into lighter sets that might be long enough. Xl .035 aren’t long enough.

Did some clean up and reopening. Probably missed some things.

Does this need to be said? Discussions of political wars, the election cycle, red v blue, Brexit, Trump or Clinton or Obama references, talk about Brexit, etc are all politics. There’s no “truth” loophole either.

I am LOVING this stuff for both cleaning and protecting, and it also comes with a super nice microfiber cloth, the nicest one I've seen:

That's what I've been doing, but I wanted a barrier so it's easier to clean- but seriously I work in a shop in Florida's 94F weather and barely break a sweat, but that thing is a print magnet!

Might have to try that, just don't want silicone on the off chance I get a chip (that would be a sad day indeed)
