Some time ago there was a cocobolo AB2 for sale here, with some sap wood in the middle.
To some it made the instrument unique, to me it ruined the whole thing, so I didn't buy it.
Well that and the fact that it was more expensive than the last time it was sold here despite some new dings.

I don't know about a definition, when I first heard of it it was used to denote a 10 out of 10 top, so perfect.
That should not prevent us from having different taste, in any case
On that blue Z3 what would annoy me the most would be the yellowish hue in the white parts I guess, but it's difficult to judge from a photo.
I'm also not sure how well they could have been bleached out if the future owner had wanted that.

again, I love where you've got a colored top and yet a BROWN spot just sticks out like a sore thumb.

I guess to sum it up though what you called a Fake X top is not that at all to others....I though you genuinely meant fake like a copy of a mayones I've seen once. the top is literally a sticker I believe.

You can’t really see it in the photos but the upper horn corner looks like it was cut with an exacting knife. I don’t believe it’s (the top)actually made of wood. I had this bass in my hands..... it was soooo gross.

A lot of companies have been doing "tops" like that lately... I call them veneers.

For lower price points its understandable. Gets a natural looking wood "top" look at a lower price. Definitely no impact on tone.

I dont know the exact thickness of the combustion figured top, I dont think it's that thin though?

My tastes, I like whacked out wood, not flamed or otherwise symmetrical, but random and crazy.

That is my Dingwall before it reached my mitts and before the 3X upgrade. But love this thing's dramatic grain, look 10X better in person.

Same, matte finish is smoother and less gripping. But I just find it abit curious because they used to do gloss in the first year of production or so...

I do like the feel and sometimes the look, however, I don't like that you can polish it over time by playing.

Some like the worn out look, not me!

Does anyone know how to quantify the actual frequency response changes in the different pickup configurations settings of the NX-2? Like for example, in bridge, neck, parallel, and series, which frequencies get boosted or cut and by how much? I always wanted to know if the manufacturers even know this.

I suppose I could try doing some tests, such as play the same chord in the different pickup settings and then tweak the EQ in a DAW and try to match them to each other, and then look at which frequencies I tweaked and by how much. But if this data is readily available, it'll save me a lot of time.

I'm just trying to quantify their differences so when I need to fit the bass into a specific mix, I'll know down to surgical accuracy what pickup configuration I need to use to sound good in that context.
