Are black tape wound strings "darker" sounding?
Why yes, yes they are. La Bella White Nylon Tapewounds are actually a "Clear Nylon" that actually have a "Clearer Brighter" tone compared to their Black Nylon tapes...

When I did my AB1 order, they sent me a pic when the body was complete, and then a final "complete" photo before shipping. I got the impression both of those weren't the normal, though. I can't imagine them really having time to take photos of every bass.Does Dingwall do progress pics?

It probably depends on the bass. If you're buying a Prima Artist you most likely get some pictures.
Getting a stock ABZ? I wouldn't count on a whole lot of production shots.
The real question is; which tape wounds are best for metal?!

I totally get it. Having said that, one of my basses will have a semi-unique finish.
Thinking about getting rid of the either the bridge solo option or the neck solo option (not sure which I'd go without yet) on my abz 6/3 and changing it to neck/bridge series. This possible as a DIY?
They don't even do the studio pics they used to do for finished basses. I just got my new Z (currently in transit to me) and no studio pics were made. I'm told "they don't always do them."
