I don't at all know when the changes were. I just know some of the used Dingwall's I bought have had two different kinds of strings, compared to brand new sets I've bought. Hence how I believe there are at least three

Our old F# sets were Kalium. Our new F# sets are custom made by D'Addario. We still use Kalium for other alt-tunings.

Some folks are trying to work out where various impressions of dingwall strings fit. Could you give us a rough timeline of when dingwall string sets changed?

I just happened to have bought a few sets of Dingwall strings with dead B strings, so I pulled a B string from my one set of Paysons and it gave me a pretty good A/B while I was playing. The Payson B string seemed to have a little more mid content in the tone. Going back and forth from E to B this became fairly apparent. I would surmise that you would find the Paysons a bit more stiff and a bit more mid-forward. Not a scientific comparison, just my experience. Personally I liked the mid-forward tone of the Paysons, but I prefer the lighter tension of the Dingwalls.

I look forward to your thoughts Lee once you have tried them out.

Exactly what I noticed, gives it a very modern "Dingwall" sound you can't mistake. That said, it doesn't work for everything.

What happened ?

I ordered a four pack of Dingwall SS strings and the B string was dead in all of them. Dingwall was contacted and I got four replacement B strings. No fuss, no muss.

Just to share, do your research elsewhere and comment elsewhere, but it looks like the tarrif hike -might- fall off soon on Chinese Dingwalls.

I worry about my Dingwall a bit on shows that call for an FSO. Last night, I took my Dingwall to a last minute pick-up gig with Billy Brown opening for Mark Wills in southern Kentucky. My Super P filled the bill, no problem. It sure would be nice to have more than 24 hours to learn a show, though.

The bass was great. The player was weak enough that he's left hoping for a call back.

Tapes can last longer too. White nylon tapes are brighter and last longer too.

Are black tape wound strings "darker" sounding?

Sweet. That is rough on timing though. I will say those backup singers look a little stiff.

All the different purples are an interesting thing. So varied. I've seen at least 2-3 other purples on Dingwalls, not even counting the NGs.

I own the one on the left and didn't realize just how red sided the purple was until I got it. I prefer the blue sided purples like the one on the right. Actually I like orange even more, but that is a different story.
