Thanks Packrat. How do I tell which contacts I use on the rotary? LOLPer Don Knuth. Beware of bugs in the above diagram. I have only proved it correct, not tried it. (Although I believe someone did a few days ago)

No it doesn’t. It’s the same as the standard 3X switch wiring. The DBird switch is an option too but mine doesn’t have it.Does the 3X Sklar also have an unusual ordering the way a 2x does?

I read that somewhere as well and was surprised to find that it has a standard 3X. Checked the site and my setup is correctHuh. That’s surprising. I recall someone mentioning Lee being super impressed with the all three pickups option on a 3x dingwall.
I guess they look about the same, but frankly it's so tiny that I would not trust my (aging) eyes on this.
Is there an easy way to measure it ?
Maybe plastigauge or something ?
Did that already, and yes the buzz disappears.
Yeah well the nut is new because the bass is new, but sure I could try and avoid any cyanoacrylate dropping on my wenge fingerboard ..![]()
Another option (less susceptible to string wear and also less danger from CA drips) is to remove the nut and build up a couple thin layers of superglue on the underside of the E/A end.
Basically a permanent, paper-thin shim.
I’d agree that it stinks to need this on a new bass, but this issue probably didn’t show up until you got the bass and set it up to your liking; the issue probably didn’t present itself with more relief in the neck and the bridge saddles set higher.
I also like a really easy-playing bass, so I’ve run into the same several times - but generally coming from the other side (the nut needed to be filed lower)

Plastigauge is an interesting idea. We've not tried it. The tolerance over the 1st fret when fretted at the 2nd is .005" to .008". Just to make sure. When you re-strung the bass, did you install Dingwall strings?
That all being said, if this is a black nut, I wouldn't suggest the superglue fix. Maybe if you dyed the baking soda but I have never experimented with that.
Yeah no, I was throwing plastigauge out there like that but it needs more contact surface to work than a string against a fret can provide.
Anyway, I asked my colleagues from the mechanical dept and they lent me a feeler gauge.
I measured .006" at fret 1 when fretting on 3, and .005" at fret 2 when fretting 1 and 4.
I used DW SS strings, yes, 127 98 75 58 45 IIRC.
I suppose the bass came with DW nickels on but not sure.
Yup, I thought about that yesterday evening. It would look like shlt.

Some sweet afterburner action here:
It is a really good reharm for sure! Not me, though that would be awesome! Adam Neely is a YouTube personality and jazz educator and a very tasty player.as much as I really don’t like Adele....
This is a really great video and this rendition is far better then the original.
Is this you?
either way thanks for sharing it.
that said......c’mon now. Hardly enough AB action shots!!!![]()

At this point, I'm still very much a club lurker as I don't own a dingwall yet! Still looking for a good active abz or super J after falling in love with them at the Chicago music exchange.
Haha no worries, me too! Thank you! I'm looking specifically for active 5s. I was just absolutely blown away by the instrument I played, but in an attempt to avoid an impulse buy, I held off. Should of jumped on it then, but ah well!I see. Honestly, I did miss a few moments of the vid. I’m a crappy multitasker.
Good luck on your search. Something will come up for sure. Are you looking for a 4,5,6?

Thanks for checking. Your nut is not too low. Raising it will only mess up your intonation in the lower frets. It sounds like the SS strings that are buzzing are just small enough to rattle in the nut slots. I can't say for sure but it could be that winding the string down further on the tuner posts is causing the string to rest on the back of the slot. The chances of this are slim but worth testing by raising the string on the post. 7 degrees of downward angle is all you need.
If this doesn't help then the slots are slightly too large for the SS strings. The easiest fix would be to install Nickels. To make the SS strings work in the slots, a smaller slot can be cut at the bottom of each of the problem slots. These smaller slots are extremely shallow. Maybe .002" deep using a file that is 50% - 75% the diameter of the string.
