So, nut story resumed :
I had 2 sets of DW SS lying around, I thought if the nut slots are too wide anyway I might as well try .. so I changed the buzzy E and A strings.

The E does not buzz anymore.
The A buzzes (a little bit) more.

So either the slot widths are really at the exact limit of mechanical tolerances, or I simply had a batch of bad strings.
Are there occurrences of bad DW strings, or is this totally unheard of ?

If a string is bad, usually the string is buzzy on all frets not just the open.

I’ve been thinking about it for awhile but I have others that I have to finish long before I get to it. This year has been very tough on my turn around times. Hoping in December I can make progress to getting caught up.

I prefer the D-Roc aesthetic over the D-Bird. I'm not sure it would work for me, but it is a cool design.

Same here. At first i didn’t really like the new shape, but it has grown on me. Specially after trying one.
Killer design work by Sheldon. The contours and balance are perfect. The old d-bird shape looks bulky and “out-dated” to me now

I'm a little nervous about this bass. After I ordered it, I found a great deal on a Super P. The P is so perfect for me that I'm left hoping this bass has a place on stage.

Please share your thoughts on how the two compare. I’m definitely GASing for a D-roc after playing one and I’ve got that Super P arriving in one year

I think it depends on the colour, the new bridges on the canadian and hellboy look awesome though

What year is that? It is post the BlueEQ switch, but still has rectangular pickups. I don't know my Dingwalls well enough...

My argument for quilted maple starts and ends here, though I do like a good even flamed maple.

It was shipped out 4/22/2009. Electronics sound great to me. Graphtec nut on this guy is brand new - had a new one cut as the previous owner had filed out the slots pretty wide for some thick gauge strings. It's a killer BEAD bass now though!

I'm just so hooked on how my D-Bird hangs on a strap. Not having an upper horn really works for me - and I don't need the upper fret access that the Afterburner body shape gives you.

Anyway I strung it with DW nickels this morning, the buzz on E and A is gone.
Unfortunately now open D buzzes

Oh and I clearly prefer the feel of the SS, but that's another story for another time.

You're in Germany, right? I'm going to have my Super J plek'd in a few weeks with a new nut in a shop in Paderborn. I can definitely report back (will probably do a vlog about it). It might be an option for you, as well
