Indeed. I would have never spec’d it this way but love it all the same.
Beauty is beauty and it’s in the eye of the beholder. I just look at it as it wasn’t my vision but someone else sure had an amazing one.

I built a z3 in 2010 (the 6 month wait seems so reasonable now) wanted to do a color burst on burl but Sheldon couldn’t get the colors to absorb to his satisfaction back then - obviously has advanced their abilities as we would expect from a world class luthier

My argument for quilted maple starts and ends here, though I do like a good even flamed maple.

Yeah, dude, it snowed here today...

We get 3 weeks of genuine cold, it may be only 35-40F but with 90% humidity and wind, it cuts to the bone.

That said I feel your pain I grew up in a Chicago suburb, lived there for 27 years, 27 too long.

We all have our preferences. It can be bland compared to other X tops but when executed properly I definitely appreciate it as well.

Although Nate, your flamed maple top could well qualify as an Xtop. Truly beautiful and a perfect example of flamed maple. Love it!

I too love quilted maple and have owned many examples...

But flamed can give you great beauty at a more cost effective price point.

Mine has a "more vague" quilt and is a subtle burst. It does NOT look like that in person and on stage, it's very dark red. I also LOVE the scallop on the end of the neck!

I'm not surre I'm allowed to post the price. I have zero affiliation with the shop, other than enjoying a bass-specific shop in my town, and ordering my Dingwalls through Chad (formerly of BassNW).

$3690 is the price he posted on the facebook page though.

So, nut story resumed :
I had 2 sets of DW SS lying around, I thought if the nut slots are too wide anyway I might as well try .. so I changed the buzzy E and A strings.

The E does not buzz anymore.
The A buzzes (a little bit) more.

So either the slot widths are really at the exact limit of mechanical tolerances, or I simply had a batch of bad strings.
Are there occurrences of bad DW strings, or is this totally unheard of ?

I loves me some Barefaced cabs! I sold a Big Twin II a while ago, wish I hadn't. Oh well. I think I'll be moving on to Bergantino stuff shortly.

Those are both gorgeous, but that top one looks like a pool of water...stunning!

Anything from any manufacture can have a defect or two, I personally had 2 out of 5 sets of D'addario strings bad and 1 bad set from DW (not dingwall).
But I'm the person to get the one defect out of a lot of 10,000.
