Dingwall Owners Club

1659 Pages and could find the answer to my question, so...

Is it possible to Mod the D-Switch that the Middle Pickup on the last Position (all 3 On) is deactivated?
3 Pickups is just too much and I just want the NG and Combustion possibility without spending 65 € on a 4 € Switch :(
I didn't like all 3 PUs on at the same time at first either. At a flat EQ I also think it's way too much. If I dial back the bass as much as 50% from flat, all but cut the mids, and roll back the highs even more than the bass, I get the warm tone I like to dial in on my other bass that has 2 PUs in the J-like position.

I do not believe so. You'd have to buy a new rotary switch - it doesn't have to be the Dingwall one.
I think someone had also previously recommended swapping the wires of the neck and middle PU. With the D-bird(roc?) switch you'd get B, BN (what @Chrishi87 is looking for), N, BMN. Which would be pretty good, but I don't think I could live without The middle PU soloed.

Its Whalepool Burst time "again"

After getting one of these basses many weeks ago and putting up pictures etc, I noticed some damage to the neck. My dealer liased with Canada and another bass was sent over and it has now turned up.

It's quite a bit heavier but it has a better balance on me so it's a bonus. The quilt is nice too and as I have a "thing" for a black-pearl pickguard I have put one on, it's a proper Dingwall one if anyone is interested.

Because "Jeff the tech" had sent me the pickup wiring diagrams I tried the Parallel option out, "it came wired in Series" and I have to say I'm sticking with Parallel. OK it sounds a bit tamer but the note clarity and definition are improved, to my ears at least.
All 4 (2X) switch positions are usable now and the Eq. seems to work better too, that's if I decide to use as I seem to be liking passive most of the time.

I am so happy now, its been a sort of Up-Down-Up exerience but I got there in the end and I simply cannot put this thing down.

So here's a couple of photos of my "keeper" dream bass

So, one of my basses made it thru. There's nothing super special about this one, but it's mine and it should be here tomorrow...

Nice! Lots of great features on this one, and stealthy looking.

Thanks! That's what I was going for. Like Nate said, these are going to be players. It'll be here in the morning, and it'll be gigged tomorrow night, LOL!

Thank you, sir! It's definitely gonna be a player. I'm more of a shot guy, but I'll bet I can fit a few cold, frosty beverages in that pouch...;)

Looks pretty purple and special to me. :) Did you go with the DG pre?

Thanks! It does look purple, but it's actually Trans Black. I think the neck is my favorite part! It's got blue Luminlay's on the face and sides. It does have the DGTC! I can't wait to hear it with the switches!

Beautiful bass you have there!

I think this little gem I just picked up sounds great and plays great. For a 10 yr old, 1st incarnation, production bass I’m really satisfied with its abilities.

But in all honesty...... I cannot compare it in any regard to any Canadian built I’ve owned or played. It’s not fair to it to hold it up to those standards.

On its own it stands very proud and strong.

Compared to a NEW NG for example, again, it doesn’t quite measure up again...

The neck does stacks up against any NG other then the fact I’ve never bonded well with laquered necks vs satin.
The tone however just cannot be categorized the same against the modern pick ups and Darkglass.
It’s been a while since I’ve had a newer combustion with the 3 band EMG pre and I would say it’s not too far off from it but still lacking in tone contour and overall inherent sonic baseline from the newer FDs installed in the combustion line but again....

To not compare it and just appreciate it for what it is makes it a completely fantastic instrument for someone on a smaller budget point.

I've got a v1 combustion, later combustion (rectangle pickups different country though) and newer NG-2.
Both combustions have rosewood fretboards which I love to death....hate maple!
I really need to AB them as I'm thinking of getting rid of the NG just because of my hatred of maple (if only it didn't sound so good!)

Is that a blacked out wenge/wenge neck?

No, sir. It's Maple/Wenge.

I'm totally digging the gig bag, but I'm probably going to get a couple of double bass gig bags. Couple of reasons, I usually carry 3 basses to every gig, that's a lot of bags, so a couple of double bags instead of 3 or 4 single bags might be an easier schlep. This and my F Bass gig bags are way too nice to end up covered in Jager & Vegas Bombs, LOL!

Your new bass is a special bass! I love the all black stealth look! It is LIGHT and well balanced. Can't wait to hear what you think!

I usually take two to a gig and I always use my MONO Dual Bass Bag. They are great! Enjoy that new bass, it's sweet.

Looking for a fretless neck to install on a Dingwall ...
Seriously thinking about converting a Z or an AB1 to fretless
Anyone got a Dingwall fretless or neck for sale?
Not that long ago there was an older Z up in grande prairie that had a fretted and fretless neck for sale. I’m not certain it sold for some reason or another. It was on kijiji and perhaps a way back machine or something could help you track it down.
